An uneventful downbound for the AQ - No way!

Well, David and I ended our postings last weekend wishing the AQ an uneventful downbound trip. No such luck. Just got a call from Capt. Jay. The Clinton railroad bridge swing span is broken, so they will be doing their Davenport shore tours out of Clinton tomorrow. No word yet on how long the bridge will be out of commission. With the luck the AQ is having this season, you'd think she was the Miss-Q, as Fred Way called the MQ.

Just back from Clinton, where the AQ was still resting. The bridge has supposedly been fixed, and they were to test it at 2:30. The AQ was planning to leave at 4 if all went well, which would put her in Lock 15 around 9PM tonight, Wednesday. Then they have to stop just below the QC to fuel up, so barring lock delays they should still be able to make an afternoon shore stop in Burlington on Thursday. It was stated that she would definitely make it to St. Louis on Saturday - this statement was made by an anonymous officer who goes on vacation Saturday! As I was driving up to Clinton this morning, I passed the 2 busses bringing the pax to the QC for their shore tour. This boat ride has been full of bussing - but the pax I talked to seemed to be taking things in stride. The landing in Clinton is excellent, as its the spot where the gambling boat recently vacated. All the ramps, mooring devices, etc. were left and are going to stay permanently. In fact it was quite a scenic spot for picture taking...

The AQ passed through here shortly before 10 last night and should be docking in Burlington as I type this at 11AM Thursday. So she's back on schedule, and hopefully can stay that way for a while.

Hi from the AQ! Yup, we got in to Burlington today at around 10 a.m.; all's well. As we departed Clinton yesterday, sailing thru the now-fixed RR swing-bridge, it was my turn at calliope duty-- so I began with "Bridge Over Troubled Water".

It occurs to me that pax lucky enough to be on board the AQ for the next couple of weeks will have unique calliope experiences. Annie and Phil have the same twisted senses of humor.
