Yes, that's Jane Greene looking over her hand of cards. Apparently she likes the cards that were dealt to her. I believe this picture was taken in the texas lounge where the bar is today, but I'm not sure, it could be on the cabin deck stbd side forward.
PS..I have not idea who the girl on the right is.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that photo was taken on the port side just forward of the purser's office looking towards the smokestack casing. The reason I come to this conclusion is if you look up at the ceiling, you can see the rounded beam that was above the one time bar from her CA days. This would mean the photo was taken in just the right spot so as not to catch the edge of the wall supporting the grand staircase. Any thoughts?
Yes, I think you're right Philip. I'm not analytical and had to twist my pictures around. But I believe as you posit, that the photographer was standing right in front of the Purser's door aiming diagonally across the lounge toward the starboard side.
RE: Jane and friend/1955 DA trip.
Jim & steamboating colleagues:
The vintage 1955 photo of Jane Greene and friend raised a lot of questions. Don't know that Jane has seen the snap or not and will attempt to make contact via E=Mail for a 'look see.' I made a scan and mailed to Joan Strader [Mrs. John J. Strader/'Jack'] for her perusal. Joan looked and stated she knows it isn't their late daughter 'Jackie.' Straders made many a DQ trip through the years as many on this board remember.
Until Jane can clarify my one guess is it 'possibly' could be her cousin of the Becker-Greene family here in Cincinnati living in Hyde Park. We all attended Withrow High School together in later years and I'd have to dig out my school annuals to see if the young lady on the right matches up--possibly. Jim, a great series of B/W photos of the day. Are there more?
