It sure sounds like they are demoting the Delta Queen to "has been" status. How do others of you closer to "the action" interpret this announcement?

AQ as flagship

David, I basically interpret it as "I have a job next year". The DQ will always be the mother ship for those of us on the river. That can and will never change. If the bosses think bringing the AQ to the fore to attract new passengers, so be it.

Please, let's not get wrapped around the axle on negative connotations, ok? There has been much too much of that over that last year or so.

Paul's right. The AQ is beautiful and grand. She has elevators. A trip on her is the most luxury ever for riding a queen of the rivers.

Don't get me wrong, I adore the DQ and it would be my first choice if I came back to work on the boats but a close second really would be the American Queen. Until you have been for a ride aboard her, don't sell her short just because of various reasons. As an ambassador to the rivers and drawing new people in, she has huge appeal. She can accomodate handicapped. She can accomodate families a bit easier. She does have rooms that are completely interior small rooms that may be more affordable. Yet, she also has the grandest rooms on the river.

There are many things I would have done a bit different if I had designed her. But I didn't design her and speculating on those flaws would not serve any useful purpose.

If the company wants to use the AQ to build the business, it is the same as the plan that Delaware North used. The biggest problem will still be- can they get enough bookings to keep all the boats afloat!. The prices are pretty high so I am sure that bookings will be harder and harder especially in our economy today.

But the American Queen is awesome!!!

Yes, the DQ is the flagship in my mind. Also, I think I will still refer to the company as the DQSC. 🙂 Even though on paper it is MAL

Paul,
I wasn't trying to be negative--I am always concerned about the future of the DQ. Since I'm way out in California, I was hoping to get some response from others (like you) who are closer to the scene, who can me if I'm just worrying over nothing.
Thanks!
Steamcerely,
David D.
PS Having work next year is a good thing!

Didn't the Greene Line bring in a boat from California, even though they still had a boat with the name of the line?

Get the book "Saga of the Delta Queen"...it explains the DQ's purchase & etc...

You'll read about real issues and concerns concerning the DQ without the attitude...
