I just read the Ike on the Ohio thread, and we were much luckier over here on the UMR. But we had over 7 inches of rain, which raised the river 2.5 feet here. But its still at a normal stage. The smaller rivers: the Rock and Green, are flooding though. When we drove home from Purdue Sunday morning, we had to leave I 280 early because it was flooded by Mill Creek. I knew I had had water in my basement due to the wet pawprints on the kitchen floor. Since the basement is unfinished, no harm was done other than the kids getting their feet wet getting to a litter box. This morning I checked the lock page before baking cookies, as the AQ is due through here upbound this afternoon. WRONG! She's sitting in pool 22, Hannibal, where the river crested yesterday 3 feet over flood stage. Obviously she can't make it under the bridge. The river is falling rapidly, and she'd have no problems clearing up here, so I suspect she's just waiting for the water to fall enough to come on up. She doesn't have the option to retreat to St. Louis, as Darin reports the river is to reach 40 feet, 10 over flood, tomorrow. So we'll see when, or if, the AQ comes through here. One could say this has been a very MALo an~o for the QUEENS!
AQ stuck in Hannibal

Still at Hannibal
The river is not dropping at Hannibal, down only half a foot and its still 2 feet over flood stage. The forecast shows it dropping 4 feet by Thursday night though...I haven't talked to anyone on the AQ, but I'd guess they'd try to come up as far as possible on this trip, perhaps doing a turnover here in the QC, Dubuque, or even LaCrosse - depending on when they can get under the bridge in Hannibal. The rest of the route is clear sailing it appears. If they only made it to here or Dubuque, I'd think they'd start the next trip by going upriver a bit first, but that's UMR logic, not Seattle's...
She's underway
The AQ locked through 21 at Quincy at noon today, Thursday. Assuming no further bridge problems, (nothing here to worry about), that puts her at L&D 15 about 7 - 8 AM Friday.
If they continue on:
they could reach Dubuque about 8 - 9 PM Friday and do the turnover in Dubuque Saturday.
they could reach LaCrosse about noon on Saturday and do a late turnover.
they could go up above the Quad Cities a bit for a ride and double back and do the turnover here in Davenport on Saturday.
Or just do a shore stop here on Friday and call it quits and turn over here on Saturday.
We'll see.
FYI: L&D 21 is 325 UMR L&D 15 and Davenport 483 Dubuque 580
LaCrosse 696... usual avg. speed including locking without delay is 8 mph.
They won't be dealing with high water or swift current after today.
Just for the heck of it, if I were rescheduling the downbound trip starting in Davenport on Saturday:
I'd send the boat up to LaCrosse, arriving late Sunday night. Do a shore stop on Monday morning.
Be in Dubuque on Tuesday and be back on schedule: Davenport Wed; Burlington Th; Hannibal Fri; St. L Sat.
