A day late, but a whistle salute and a jaunty rendition of HAPPY BIRTHDAY on the cally-ope to Bruno Krause, who celebrated the "double nickel" yesterday. Keep up steam and keep rolling on the river!
Incidentally, my dear parents are celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary today! As high school sweethearts they attended the 1949 New Albany High School prom aboard the venerable steamer AVALON.
Sorry Bruno. It completely slipped by. But then you know I've been a bit preoccupied. You'll forgive me won't you? Happy Belated Birthday!
Happy Belated Birthday, Bruno....
Lets have a Sam Adams and talk! He, he, he!

Happy belated birthday, Bruno!
Carmen
And let us add our belated wishes to the list --- you young whippersnapper!!!
Ginnie and Ralph
Bruno! Happy 55th! It's the big funf and funfzig and I hope it was happy. I didn't forget about it - I just didn't know about it, so I will now go eat a lobster and drink a Sam in your honor. Many happy returns, Jazzou
Happy Birthday

Ditto! Well, alright, I won't have a lobster, but a Sam sure sounds good. Cheers,
Frank
Come On Down
Bruno,
Come on down to the Rabbit Hash Shipyard and join in the month-long birthday celebration. We'll even extend the doings a day, or more, maybe longer just for you.
The shipyard is very easy to find:
"About a mile from Crazy Clifford's, and not too far a piece from Shantyboat Mikes's."
Or if you get lost, ask at the General Store. Everyone knows how to find us.
Happy Belated Birthday from me also, Bruno - at this rate, you'll get to celebrate your birthday for the whole coming year. I'm sure there will be some REAL celebrating on our upcoming trip. Bon Voyage.................
Postscript: Having mentioned this event earlier, herewith, from the New Albany High School Yearbook are photos of the Str. AVALON at the New Albany wharf (pre-floodwall and the cobblestones still extant) and a scene on deck, with several of the young men wearing STEAMER AVALON souvenir caps. I saw one, covered with autographs, in an antique mall last week and the price tag was $60.
The last image shows the Str. AVALON (in the same time period) steaming along the Upper Mississippi. When my parents-to-be rode the AVALON for the 1949 high school prom, my dad recalls seeing coal shoveled into the boilers and being fascinated with the sights, sounds and smells of the engine room. My mother mainly remembers ruining her white satin ballerina slippers while walking across mud covered planks to reach the stage!

Ah, Bruno, its a happy BD from me and MISSIE. We done been outta town for a space and done missed the main event. But, any way if you get to the Rabbit Hash Shipyard, Marina and Yacht Club, well walk on over to the General Store and see about their Lobster and Sam Special for $1.99 plus two box tops (proof of purchase) from a case of Walnettos.
Cap'n Walnut and Miss MISSIE.
Tom:
Good to see your posting. We've missed you at recent museum events! Hope all is well and that you'll come see us in the near future!
Keep up steam!
Keith
Geeze, I go away to North Canuck country, wet, cool and internet challenged I might add but we did have a great time, and I come back to this?
You guys are the best, thanks, really...We drove up to the cabin on my birthday and would you believe that Canada Customs forgot it was my double nickle day? How rude...
Funf and funfzig! 🙂 What ARE the chances? Five million seven hundred and fifty two thousand to one... But it happens all the time...
