Hey all...

Just saw something on the BELLE OF LOUISVILLE site about trips to Madison, IN this coming fall to start off the celebration of 200 years of steamboatin! I don't know about you all...but this really sounds like a great all day trip to me! I would be interested to see what the possibility would be to get a room up there and make it a round trip!

Here is a link to the particulars!

BELLE to Madison

The old days could be back! We had many great times doing this Madison trip when the BELLE was chartered on Saturday evening by the local Republicans. We sat out on the porch of the President Madison and watched the BELLE glide by. On Sunday afternoon was the public cruise up the Kentucky River to Lock 1, then the deadheading trip back to Louisville...I can hear the pilothouse windows rattling as we stretched out on the roof and took it all in...

Wow, this is tempting--if we can swing the air and lodging. . . .I guess it will also depend on whether my job continues or not! $140 a person for round trip & dinner trip, not bad. . .

Sign me up at least for the return on Saturday. Darn that Friday stuff. Just not enough vacation days to stretch thin enough. As one steamboater said to me recently w-o-r-k is a four letter word...

Jo Ann,
On can always get steamofobius in their arm, and have to take a sick day off work to have it looked at. . . . .

Yes and the weird thing is, it cannot be treated by a doctor.....only a Chief Engineer in the presence of a steam engine. Its a very serious disease. I have heard some Chiefs are willing to sign ticket stubs as a proof of your appointment. 🙂

You guys are so funny. I had to chuckle this morning. I know one school teacher, that when she called in sick and came back to work her principal used to ask her which boat was in town!

My company allows three weeks off. I can take them as sick days, vacation days, personal days, snow days or whatever you want to call them. But if you go over the 15 days then they carry over to the next year. Three years ago I took 2 1/2 days too many. I'm still carrying over 1/2 day - just can't seem to get it made up. Too many fun river things going on.

By the way, in over eight years with this same company - I've taken one sick day. It actually snowed that day and when I called in I said I wasn't feeling well, so they could call it a snow day or a sick day, but I wouldn't be in. I've learned better than to be sick. No matter how bad I feel I make it to the office. Got to save ALL my days for fun things!

The details haven't been worked out, yet, but MOR, whom Fred Way once named as being the peripatetic brethren, is planning on making this event an official MOR gathering. Stay tuned for further information.

Sounds like those Vegas commercials.

You could also claim a respiratory condition that requires 2 days with a "vaporizer".
