Now, I don't claim to know what is going on in Rabbit Hash, but I heard a rumor there was celebrating going on--maybe some of you on that big casino boat could look over and see if you see Cap'n Walnut? Some talk about the mayor howlin' at the moon, getting ready to celebrate a birthday--I don't know, it's pretty cold and blustery here up in the big city. I don't think anyone should let the good Captain take MISSIE out, if he had plans to celebrate that way--could you guys keep an eye out? You know what happens to your brain, with every year you get older . . .

Mary,

It's strange you mention such activities goin on. 'cause here in the River City we have heard the same grumblings!

Perhaps we should just fire up the calliope and play an icy rendition of "Happy Birthday" for Capt'n Walnut. Maybe not...that would sound like the murder of cattle in this weather! I will just say it this time...Happy Birthday Capt'n Walnut!

Playing the calliope down in River City might just bust up the ice up here, Travis, so go ahead and play! Any news from the shipyard about locating Cap'n Walnut or the mayor?

Thank you one and all for your kind and warm thoughts on this snowy, windy day. Been at large in Ragtown getting blood drawn and poked at here and there getting ready to install a new hip joint here at the shipyard, week after next...if we can get the drydock MT'd 'n pumped out by then. Since Clifford is gone, we had to find another saw-bones to do the installation. Luckily, Clifford left his hammer and saw at the boat works. Will be in dry-dock for a day or two until the glue dries and cement sets up (no duck tape on this one)~! The first joint that came in we had to reject...ever compass needle in the entire marina pointed to it...as far away as Trixie's, 'way down at the mouth of Gunpowder! So we ordered one that din't have no iron in it. The new one's said to go only in the right direction...remains to be seen how it could possibly git along with the other one! Sigh, I DO hope they'll warm it a bit after the US Mule brings it!

I'm pleased as punch about the good Cap'n celebratin' another birthday here, and wishin' him the best for the upcomin' operation.

By the way, the Mayor of Hollywood's recognized "Center of the Universe" Mayor Lucy Lou made the TV news last night in the Queen City. She was shown patroling the heavily snow covered streets of Rabbit Hash for traffic violators. I don't believe she handles the illegaly parked cars the way her male predecessor did. She's much kinder and much less messy.

Over-Joyed

Caught you on Facebook, last night, and left HBD tidings there. Your sawbones best look elsewhere for a hammer and saw, for soon after C. lit off for steamboat heaven, his tools were given a liberal slathering of goose grease and sent up to the RH Museum that closed soon after for the season and won't be open, again, until the geese return from Dixie.

PS: Fiddlin' Joy called the boatyard, this afternoon, and had nothing but good things to say about the celebrated Captain of the Str. MISSY (or is it "IE"?) She was OVER-JOYED to hear of your survival for another season.

I wuz there won day when someone asked her what she fiddled with! My face is still red! And, yes, she is SL MISSIE, not MISSY. And, my sincere thanx to ALL those who chose this means and facebook to extend good wishes! The Rabbit Hash Flash brought his duck-boat inta the shipyard late. Wantin' a new bilge drain plug...the bubble gum got too brittle in this cold weather and popped out! Need to be makin' a new one outta sumpin' the natives won't "borrow" to put under the short leg of the bed etc. Cap'n Walnut

Frank: It took me a while, but I finally found a picture or two of Mayor Lucy Lou's predecessor as Rabbit Hash Mayor. In the one, Junior is demonstrating what politicians do best...or, mebbe, second best! In the other, he is riding to work in MISSIE to the shipyard. He was not only in charge of the dog watch, but held the high office of marking the tires of incoming cars so that they might be ticketed if they were there more than three weeks. Junior's, predecessor, Snoopy, the very first Mayor of Rabbit Hash had weak kidneys and some say that when an 18 wheeler parked at Rabbit Hash over-night, the effort did him in! THEN, some say, there was the time that the DELTA QUEEN stopped there with her BIG wheel and...but, that story has never been verifried. Cap'n Walnut4985.jpg4986.jpg
