One Mary Bill Bauer will soon be landing at Malta, Colorado, where its only residents await her arrival. Now, one has to wonder what Divine Providence caused this famous Louisville river rat to bless us with her presence on Derby Day. Should I bake a Derby pie and wear a big hat?

For the grand entrance you might play "My Old Kentucky Home" on your bagpipes!

*Where the sun shines bright*
Hi, Lexie and Keith,
Lexie, give you-know-who my regards if she even remembers me from now the increasing long ago.

Keith, Louisville never looked better than for the big Derby run early last evening. Okay, so the California horse won. Kentucky still the best. Just took time here--no big Derby party--to watch the run for the roses with drinks [One for me] with the neighbors. And "the sun shown bright" for sure. Louisville a great city where "it's happenin." I know local politicos, movers-and-shakers here in Ragtown grit their teeth when our rival city scores in many ways. That's the way it is even back to the days with the famous ROBT. E. Lee and the NATCHEZ representing both cities.

That horse originates from the next large town south of my place, and the owners are just "regular folks" not the big money types that usually have fast horses. So I think this is one for the underdogs!!!
But now I'm causing thread drift. BTW, that town was the head of navigation for the Feather River.

*The underdog horse from California*
Hi, David,
You bet I rooted for the California horse too. A real victory and upset but there's room for all. Thanks for notes on where out there. I can see all the Arab princes, crowned heads of Europe and new computer zillionairs lining up now for breeding rights. That's where they make the real money.

Capt. Mary Bill and the Str. Izuzu

Her nibs dained to arrive at the very moment the horses were off. We did eventually bake a Derby pie. I, by the way, have not attempted the bagpipes since I moved to Colorado. Fearful that I don't have the wind for them. MB is 82 and does not intend to take any more big trips. She went to church to hear the organ and took pictures of the train, which does not start running until Memorial day, then went looking for waterfowl, but it's too early for them, as well. She is now headed for Monument Valley. She and the Navajo should have a fine time.

Dale,
Yep, there's where the BIG money is. I heard on the radio some time before the race that back when they bought the horse, some jockey walking by the stables said, "Only a fool would buy THAT horse!"
Looks like these "fools" will be laughing all the way to the bank, but based on what I've heard about them, they're likely to not change their lives much at all, save for maybe take a trip or two.
