At their monthly meeting this evening, the 24 member board of directors of the Howard Steamboat Museum voted unanimously to appoint me the new director of the museum, succeeding Yvonne Knight, who has faithfully served with great dedication for many years and is retiring on December 31st. I first visited the HSM in 1963 at age 9 on a third grade school tour and was completely awed and captivated by Mrs. Loretta Howard and her wonderful stories of the river and steamboats. By age 14 I was volunteering at the museum, under the tutelage of Mrs. Howard and Miss Ruth Ferris, my St. Louis steamboating mentor. Little did I dream, at the time, that the day would come when I would be chosen to "take the wheel" as curator/director and to guide the museum into the future!
I am truly blessed and so look forward to the years ahead, and to taking the museum to new levels that will make Capt. Jim & Loretta Howard -- and all my other patron saints and friends of steamboating -- proud!

Congratulations, Keith! I know you'll do a great job.
Congrats Keith!!! I know the Museum will be in great hands with you at the helm!
Congrats Keith! Couldn't think of a better person to take the wheel. Will Yvonne still be involved or is she retiring? Somehow I can't see her just walking away.
Keith,
My sincere congratulations and very best wishes as you take over the helm at Howard Steamboat Museum. As so many others in the river community will attest, your appointment is one of the best pieces of news to come down the pike in many years, and we all know that you will do an outstanding job because of your great interest, expertise and lifelong passion for steamboating and the river. May you guide the Howard for many years to come, my friend, as you carry on the great tradition of those who came before you.
Miss Ruth Ferris must be smiling from ear to ear right about now! We join our greetings and congratulations with all who have been an influence in your life as a steamboat buff, historian, collector, and a genuinely kind and generous friend.
All the very best,
David
Congratulations, Keith! Is there any doubt out there that you'll do a wonderful job? It's just so great when people with knowledge and passion get the jobs they deserve. That doesn't always happen nowadays, but it sure happened at the Howard! Congratulations again, Keith.

Iยดm sure that not only Miss Ferris has a big smile on her face but also Alan!

*Wonderful news*
A long Cincinnati harbor salute to Keith upon his new appointment at the Howard Steamboat Museum. It seems fate ordained that he be elevated to this position following all his years of interest, dedication, hard work. Keith, you deserve it!
As I mentioned to you in an early E=Mail, "This is where you belong." Many, many long, healthy, prosperous years ahead for both you and the Howard--'the little museum that can and does.'

Congratulations Keith. I cannot think of a more devoted and dedicated person to take over the operation of the museum. The museum board was very wise to choose you. Also congratulations and best wishes to Yvonne on her retirement from so many years of service and hard work keeping "The Little Museum that Could" on track all these years. One whistle salute for the both of you is not enough. We need a full Calliope concert!!
Can, does, and does right...
Not only is the Howard Museum the little museum that can and does, but it does it right too. The board has long appreciated Keith's presence and efforts and the situation has finally arrived whereby he can be rightfully rewarded. But the real winners are the Howard and our river community!
Talk about a dream job! Congratulations, Keith, on your appointment and good luck to Yvonne as she wraps up her tenure.

Congratulations, Keith!

THANKS!
My heartfelt THANKS to all for your congratulatory messages! Reading them made me think of the columns in old newspapers where the river reporters, through the use of complimentary remarks, could make an "old tub" sound like a "floating palace"!
Indeed, I have much to think about as I prepare to step up to the wheel on January 1st. I am very grateful to my predecessor and longtime friend, Yvonne Knight, for all she has done to keep the doors of the museum open for the past two decades. We will be honoring her with a special reception in January which will be open to all members and friends of the museum.
Stay tuned for future and further announcements. It's gonna be fun!
Again, my THANKS to all of you for your kind words and encouragement.
Keep up steam!
A most hearty congratulations from Linda & David way out in Califonry!
It is great to see that, for once, a logical course has been taken!
Hmm, so who's in line for your "old" job??

Congrats Keith, this should keep you even busier!
Congratulations Keith, and lots of good wishes, as you begin your new adventure at the Howard.
Congratulations Keith! The museum couldn't have chosen a better leader!

Congratulations, Keith! It's nice to know that the Museum has another person at the helm who will love it and take care of it the way it deserves. Best of luck in your new position ๐
The museum will be in the very best hands with Keith. It is truly a "marriage made in heaven". There is a lot going on at the museum nowadays and, with Keiths hand on the helm, things are getting done right and he's just getting started! Yvonne is a hard act to follow. She has worked tirelessly for many years making the museum what it is today, but Keith is and will do a fine job.

"Does this mean you are going to clean out your basement and put everything in the muzeem?" said Keith's mother, with a gleam in her eye.

Yeah. I'm not done yet.... Quote on back of photo: "Be quick with that line you mudcat," shouts pilot KN as Str. tell City comes in to land. (A serious moment as Keith does research on piloting an old riverboat for his dissertation, "Nineteenth Century Riverboats and Their Operation on the Western Rivers of the United States of America, or Quarter Less Tyree")
Keith: I second all these congrats and good wishes. Lemme know if I can help! Cap'n Walnut.
Keith to Keith:
Heartiest congratulations indeed! It is truly a rare and fine thing when the person and the job are so well matched. All the best to you, and likewise to Yvonne for all her many years of extraordinary service to the HSM.
Belated Congrats
Keith:
A Belated Congratulations on your directorship. Let me know if there is anything I can ever do to help.
