Modernagent says that the former AMCV/DQSC ships CAPE COD LIGHT and CAPE MAY LIGHT may have found a new owner. MARAD confirmed the contract and said that the sale will be closed within the next few weeks. MARAD did not mention a name of the new owner but rumors are that the Clipper Group might be the buyer.

RE: CAPE COD LIGHT/CAPE MAY LIGHT 'deal.'
Carmen, thanks for the 'heads up' on the above sale pending to CLIPPER, the European consortium. Word just jumped out this morning early here with business E=Mails. Another bit of information also came in.
*CRUISE LINE STOCKS "tumbled last week as oil prices spiked and fears of recession affected discretionary products. ROYAL CARIBBEAN Ltd's shared dropped on May 21 to a 52 week low of $28.05, down from a high of $45.17 last June. CARNIVAL CORP. stocks fell to $37.43 on May 21, down from a high of $52.10 last fall; its shares hit a 52-week low, $36.10 in March."
Cheers,
R. Dale Flick
The sale seems to be finalized. According to my sources the price was 20 million USD per ship. Clipper is going to invest another 10 million to get both ships ready to sail. The CAPE COD LIGHT (COASTAL QUEEN 2) still has no galley. Both ships will be renamed to CLIPPER DISCOVERER and CLIPPER VOYAGER. No news about where they are going to cruise.

So far there´re no agreements with any cruise company for charters. But they expect the ships to be back into service by spring 2009.

GPA Designed
Those twins ships were designed by one of the finest boat and ship designers who has made so many outstanding contributions to the marine scene, Mr. George Karantsavelos of Guido Perla & Associates of Seattle, the Rolls-Royces of ship design. George may be visiting the RH Shipyard next week if all goes according to plans, and hopefully he will an interesting side to relate. My last two BIG boats have been GPA designs with Mr. K. signing-off on the final plans.

We've always wanted to ride these beauties...I think I have the original brochures from ACV around here some where...and I remember the ACV 3D active/dynamic website didn't work too well, always crashed the Mac...
I think they are very good looking, and the ol' DQSC decoration stuff inside was pretty cool, too, I suspect that will all be tossed.
And 15 miles per hour with less than 3000 horse, if I did my math right, impressive...
Has anybody cruised on the Cape May Light? I've read a few reports, sure would like to hear more about the experience.
