The two Cape ships are going to be renamed to ALEGRIA and VALENCIA. On this website you can purchase cabins as floating condos. Home port is Port Caneveral.

Reminds me of that river condo project.

Cape May Condos?

In an earlier chapter in my career I worked for a condominium management company. I cringe at the thought of a boat that is managed by a condominium board.

Capt. Jamie Donohue just sent this pictures of the two ships he took a couple of weeks ago at Green Cove Springs, FL.

Isn't it great to have steamboats.org photo reporters all over the country?

Thanks very much Jamie!3046.jpg

This is not a new concept. I watched a travel article about floating residences years ago. For the wealthy with multiple homes, it works.

Well this is pretty misleading. This is from the FAQ...

How old are the ships?

"The first two Waterfront Lifestyles International ships are brand new. Subsequent ships will range from brand new to perhaps 30 years old, but all will have been completely refurbished and made new again."

That's a good one. This must be "Clones" of the cape boats..hahah. I was an employee on the Cape May when AMCV went under

Well, to be fair, this is what the web site actually says:

"Alegria and her twin sister ship Valencia are brand-new ships that were built in 2001 and never sailed due to the cruise line canceling the order after 9/11. One ship actually did make a single trip up the eastern coast of the US but returned and was docked ever since. Both ships are now undergoing renovation and updating for our use and some of the photos below reveal the refurbishment. Completion is expected this Spring. "

My wife and I made the inaugural trip from Norfolk, VA to Philadelphia on the 5th of May, 2001. As with many new vessels, there were problems but the good time we had far outweighed the problems. The biggest problem was that we left Norfolk into the Chesapeake Bay, we lefy in a Nor'easter with a vessel with no stablizers. The food was excellent and the service impeccable. Unfortunately the ship never made it to Philadelphia due to a tug being overun and sunk in the C&D canal. We were bussed from Baltimore to Philadelphia. Captain Chuck Beverly met an unfortunate end when the ship was buttoned-up. He was a fine Captain.

Hey Paul. They changed that after I emailed them. What they did add is also misleading. I guess you could say the Cape May made one round trip from Florida to Canada and back, but it was in the span of 5 months or so. But they failed to say that it had a regular cruise schedule until AMCV sunk.

Cape May memories from the Maitre

I'm with Richard! I as well was aboard the Cape May Light inaugaral cruise and the good times far outweighed the problems or changes to itinerary, if anything they added to the grand adventure. And i say this even as a crew member!! I was the Assistant Maitre'd for the cruise line's short lived life and I had the most fun on that boat. The newness and crispness of the boat, the ports along the Eastern Seaboard all the way into Canada and the local fare we picked up along the way. I never ate so much lobster in my life! It was a sad day when the Fat Lady sang!! Perhaps the boats have been moved but for several years they have been in Green Cove Springs, FL which is near my home of St. Augustine. I have drove past them many times and waved:)
