Received the sad news from the upper Ohio that Capt. Larry Gene Geisler passed away yesterday. Capt. Geiseler was one of the last of the selfmade Upper Ohio boatmen. Capt. Geisler was a strong willed and opinion person, also quite a boat trader. He was always involved with a boat swap or sale.
Capt. Geisler was a long time member of S & D and had a very fine river collection.

Another One Gone

Sorry to hear that yet another of the old guard river fraternity has passed on. I'm sorry that I never met Capt. Larry, but I remember seeing the big nameboard from the MONONGAHELA on a building at his landing for the Valley Boat Docks at Duffy, Ohio. Capt. Fred used to chuckle about Larry and say that he was a charter member of the S&D, with the distinction of never having attended a meeting at Marietta.

A whistle salute to the memory of a fine river character!

Larry Geisler

Sure sorry to hear of Larry's passing. I had known him since 1955. After I moved to St. Louis, he would always call and complain about something--late Waterways Journal arrival, some boat not in the Inland River Record, or just something like how fast the grass was growing and he had to go out and cut it. A telephone chat with him was a minimum of a half-hour. I hope his river material was not damaged during his stay in the center and that it finds a good home.
