It's with great pleasure that Bob Schad and I announce we've been asked to perform with the Huntington, West Virginia Symphony on Saturday evening, June 13. The concert is part of their summer series that takes place on the riverfront, and our appearance has been arranged by Lenora and Jerry Sutphin. Lenora is a member of the symphony board. So, something to look forward to on a cold winter weekend - mark your calendars and we''ll be providing more details soon!
Jazzou: Indeed, something WARM to look forward to during these frigid days! Wanted to let you know (as you requested) that we're still working on the logistics of bringing The St. Louis Ragtimers to the Howard Steamboat Museum, maybe during the spring festival, which is May 16-17 this year.
Don Franz, who started the band in 1961, was once part owner of the GOLDENROD SHOWBOAT with the late Frank Pierson. And Bill Mason, who plays the trumpet, was in a band on the GORDON C. GREENE and later served as watchman. Don is putting together a GOLDENROD SHOWBOAT CENTENNIAL program, as 2009 marks the 100th anniversay of the showboat's construction at Parkersburg, WV by the Pope Dock Company.
I think you can be assured there will be several "river rats" at the Symphony that night!
