A couple of years ago I bought a counted cross stitch kit in the MQ gift shop. Last year when walking through LaCrosse with Bobbi Steinike we saw a nice counted cross stitch piece in a shop there. This ended up in a still ongoing email and letter conversation with Bobbi. She sent me copies of the patterns she collected (and more). And I started to work...
I´m posting pix of my results and patterns I haven´t finished yet.
So here´s the question: Is there anyone out there who has other patterns willing to share?
Carmen
Carmen, I think that second-to-last one (the stern view) has been the subject of another thread... not sure where it is though.
Carmen, my wife is into counted croos stitch and she says you might want to look at Cross Stitch Collectibles - fine art counted cross stitch patterns, CDs, downloads, free patterns they have a good pattern of the ROBT E. LEE-NATCHEZ race taken from the famous Courier and Ives print. About 10 yrs ago she did an excellent one of the KATE ADAMS which I have hanging on JIM'S DREAM, but I don't know if the pattern is still available.
Very punny, Jonathan

...maybe that thread is in her sewing basket!
Ha, ha! I thought it, but wouldn't say it!
Thanks, Jim (or better thanks to your wife!),
I found it here. Looking at what I´ve done so far I think that might be a retirement project :-).

A few years ago Bruno posted a picture of the counted cross stitch Debbie did of the stern one Jonathon mentioned. It's now wallpaper on my computer. I love looking it everyday, all day!
JoAnn,
I found two old threads started by Bruno regarding the cross stitch work.
Here´s the one with the picture. And here´s a second one.

Carmen, I found the pattern--sorry, I have not been online for a bit! I'll send anyone who wants it the directions, etc. I've done it, and it is wonderful. I do not have a picture of the finished piece (I'll try to get one later this week), but I am very proud of it). Just contact me if you want it.
Mary,
I´ve sent you a private message.
Carmen
Carmen,
That second-to-last cross-stitch of the DQ is indeed a good one. My wife Debbie and I found the kit in a tourist shop on Jackson Square in 1991. When we got home that summer, I kept pestering her about stitching it. Finally, my constant complaining resulted in her reply, "Why don't you stitch it yourself?" Well, I spent the next week on our back porch with needle in hand, and it now graces our basement family room. My admiration and respect for those who do cross-stitching grew by leaps and bounds that summer. I will NEVER do one again! But, my dear wife, a talented seamstress and quilter in her own right, complimented my work and gave it her stamp of approval. I must confess that I did make a few minor alterations to the pattern to more accurately reflect the actual boat. Perhaps you can persuade Franz to take up a needle and thread??? I've admired his work with the GORDON C. GREENE model at the Howard Museum, so I've no doubt he has the artistic eye and creativity necessary!
Carmen, all your pieces are beautiful. I, however, am the world's worst counted cross "stictcher", although do well on stamped embroidery. I've searched with no success to find a DQ stamped anything Any ideas?
Ginnie
Ginnie,
Thanks! I´m still making a lot of mistakes :-).
No I haven´t seen any stamped embroidery. But Bobbie Steinike told me something about red embroidery (not sure if that was the correct word). You transfer a picture on the fabric and then embroider the lines with a red thread. And she sent me a copy of the DQ out of a coloring book.
Check the Steamboats.org bookstore
Steamboats.org Bookstore | steamboats.org
for Little Steamboaters and it´s the first book. It´s still available. And the pictures can be easily transferred.
