Good afternoon all!
Just in from the riverfront at Louisville, KY where things have been hopping since about 9:30pm last night.
The AMERICAN QUEEN was downbound with the Ubberoth family aboard headed to St. Louis, and the DELTA QUEEN upbound headed for Cincinnati, OH. The AQ came in about 9pm and the DQ was landed and crew and pax getting off at about 10pm. A large number of crew of both boats were at a couple of local watering holes in Louisville until almost 2:30am this morning.
As you may have guessed there were several rumors and speculations mentioned. Nothing concrete, so I won't mention them here. It was great to be able to spend a good amount of time with many friends I have not seen since I worked on the boats.
At 12:30 the DELTA QUEEN left the landing with Professer Tony Schwartz at the keyboard of the DQ cally and I will give you the link to the YouTube video I shot (It is bad...but you hear the calliope and the whistles of both boats).
Who knows if this will ever happen again. Here is hoping it will!

Here are some more pics from today!
Enjoy!

Nice shots Travis, thanks!
I can't believe I missed this!!! Thats what I get for slacking on watching the forums! When will the DQ be in Louisville next?
Phillip
The DELTA is not scheduled back in Louisville until Sunday, August 24th, with a boatload of steamboat lovers on board. It is suppose to be an all day stop 9 - 5. She will be in Madison this coming Sunday, July 27th for one of the Farewell Tributes. It is hard to make those words come out of my mouth! Scheduled to leave at 1:00 p.m. with the Tribute at noon.
Phillip,
Deb, Bruno, Barb & I will be on that trip, along with many other river rats. There's even a 'rumor' that some visitor's from Germany will be there at that time! Then there's a bunch of us on the following trip, many who you know - she'll be in Louisville on the 28th from 8 AM to 1 PM. Look forward to seeing you...........................
Pat
Pat,
We heard that some of the passengers might need a ride over to the Howard Museum. So we thought it might be a good idea to show up and help out :-).
See you all in Louisville!
Carmen
Us too!! Gonna be a whirlwind stop though, gotta do the Howard AND the BOL too!! I have no Idea what the Co. has planned for that stop (shore trip); we's gots other plans, and YES we will be bumming rides!!! Thank YOU!!!!
Oh boy, Oh boy, STEAMBOATIN'!

What?? Me getting excited???
Yvonne Knight and I will be "on deck" to open the museum early Sunday morning exclusively for our SPECIAL steamboat friends!
We'll have steam up on the coffee pot and are looking forward to seeing y'all soon!
I don't know what I'm more excited about, seeing the Howard (and meeting Keith, Yvonne, Carmen, and anyone else I'm sure I've missed) and riding the BOL. or being on board the DQ for a week--egads, did I just commit blasphemy???
Oh boy, Oh boy, STEAMBOATIN'!!! (just in case y'all don't understand this line, it's taken from an old '50s American Flyer Trains ad, one of my other vices--"Oh boy, Oh boy Hurk, TRAINS!")
And did Keith say I'm "Spescul"?? I guess it's back to the home for me. . . 🙂
Y'all are just to fantastic, this is gonna be GREEEAAAAT! (I musta watched way too many TV commercials as a kid)

And Ginnie and Ralph Rhynders...and John and Carol Mullen.
29 days, I told Charlene to bring her armor, I don't think she realizes what she's in for.
Great news about the German group!
Bruno,
Ooops, I wasn't listing the folks on board, just the ones in Louisville we haven't met yet! Yep, we'sa gonna have an impact!!

Hey all,
I will do my best to have the car available for runs to the museum, if anyone needs a ride. Rather than have steam up, I think I will offer better service with the A/C up that time of year!
~Travis~
So she'll be in Louisville on the 28th...of July? As in on a monday from 8-1pm? I need to clear my schedule for the day of her Louisville stop, and I too could be a car if needed for going to the Howard.
Phillip
Nope...August 28th. I checked the schedule and she will be in that day from 8a-5p.
~Travis~
Thanks Travis....I'll be on travel for work in Florida that day 🙁 . The one time I make it down to FL (even if for work), I'd much rather be in humid ole KY. Don't ya hate when work gets in the way of your hobbies!
Phillip
We are taking SUNDAY AUG 24! She may be back on the 28th, I don't know that part of her schedule by heart!
Thought I'd better make that clear, and Travis, YES, I think we could use another car, THANK YOU very much!! (plus, I'll get a chance to see you too!)

PS schedule not set yet, but figure we'd better get an early start, so's we can have enough time to visit the Howard and make the BOL departure/boarding time!
Yes, she will be back in Louisville on August 28th from 8 AM - 1 PM
As for August 24th - she's there from 9 AM - 5 PM. The Sunday cruises on the BOL run from 2 PM-4 PM, which will give us time to get off the BOL and jump on the DQ. And there will be plenty of time to do the Howard before the afternon cruise.
Phillip,
A lucky man once had his work be his hobby....I am jealous of myself!

Morale disaster narrowly avoided! I will be in town that sunday Aug 24! Looks like I might get to see the ole gal after all!

I envy you my friend! Although I do get to visit some bluewater ships with my job, so its not all bad. I think I have actually met you on the wharf before once when both the MQ and DQ were in Louisville, but that was couple years ago.
Pat,
Well, that sounds like we'll have about 10 to 12:30 actually at the Howard--doesn't sound like enough time to me, but I'll take whatever I can get!! (I'm guessing on time to greet everyone, load up, drive over there, unload--re-greet, and get inside. Then, saying goodbye, last minute pics, load up, drive back to dock, unload, more goodbyes and pics, up the stage onto the BOL). I might be giving this process all more time than it will really take, but you know Mr. Murphy!
And no, my life is NOT that organized!!!! My boss is always on me to clean up my cubicle!

I am pinching myself, this is gonna be so fantastic, Wowziers!!!
David,
Fear not, there will be PLENTY of time! With very light traffic on Sunday morning, the trip from the Louisville landing, over the Second Street Bridge and up Market Street to the museum will take 15 minutes or less. Normally, the museum opens at 1:00 on Sunday, but this is a SPECIAL occasion and a chance to visit with SPECIAL friends, so Yvonne and I are truly delighted to open up the mansion early (we love an opportunity to show off the place!) so y'all can come tour the museum, visit with us "for a spell" and also have time to enjoy the afternoon cruise on the BELLE. You'll get a real "steamboat fix"!
Be cool and we'll see you soon!
You guys need to work on the Captain to see if he can hurry up making sure you get into Louisville, so you can disembark right after breakfast!
