The plaques were hung last week - finally! The delay was requested until we could determine a better place to mount them, other than the original proposed location at ankle height on the deck. They are mounted on a nicely finished board, with the heading 'DELTA QUEEN STEAMBOATERS', and are in the Betty Blake Lounge, port side aft. To purchase one, go to the Delta Queen Hotel website. It is important to support the Hotel, or the DQ's fate will be that of the MQ!

Thanks for the information Pat. I note that the DQ site now has an online gift shop, offering clothing, prints and commemorative items other than the placques. I attempted to place an order to "help the cause", but after several tries I gave up as it wasn't functioning properly. I reported it and will try again some other day!

The plaques really look good, so much better than the original outdoor plan! It is a nice way to support the DQ Hotel which is supporting the boat, and to see the familiar names of passengers or crew members we have known. I'm glad I was there to see them, and to see that there is plenty of space for more plaques on that wall.5440.jpg

DQ plaques

Good to see the nice spot they found for the plaques. But there is something missing from these pictures, and that would be the person who has spent unmatched uncounted hours and given tireless effort to save the DQ, JoAnn Schoen. I know she attended the MOR gathering, so I suspect this was done prior to her arrival (some poor folk haven't attained the privileged 'retired' status yet). Anyway, thanks to all, including JoAnn, for your continuing efforts on the behalf of the DQ.

I ordered one today for JoAnn and I but I had to call the DQ hotel to do it. They said that they are having a problem with the web site processor. For me, it locked up when it asked for shipping info which. of course, there isn't any of the placques. Ours will pale in comparison to those of most since we only had two trips before she was taken out of service.

I reported the problem via email and got a prompt response and emailed back the info they needed. They are supposed to call for a credit card number, but one can mail a check as well. Ah, technology.

Thirty-one MOR members converged on the Delta Queen for our Spring meeting May 21-23rd. Several members arrived early to enjoy the boat and each other's company. There were members from Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan,Georgia, Florida, Indiana, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania on hand. A couple from the east coast who were long-time riders and lovers of the D.Q. happened to be there at this time, so we adopted them for the weekend. It was so good to swap river talk, enjoy Bob Steven's banjo and guitar music, and be together on board the D.Q. again.
We got our first look at the plaques, which are displayed attractivly and tastefully on a nice wooden board labled "Delta Queen Steamboaters", in the Betty Blake Lounge. Looks good!
Some of the highlights of Saturday included a pleasant trip through the beautiful Moccisin Bend River Gorge on the jet boat River Gorge Explorer, a wonderful calliope concert by Travis, and sharing laughter and stories in the forward cabin lounge. The real icing on the cake came after the delicious, well-served banquet when Bob Stevens presented his show. We shared the Orleans Room with a AAA Mystery Tour group, who seemed to catch the steamboatin' spirit almost immediately, and joined in the sing-along songs, the comrararie, and the happiness of the occasion. Bob Stevens was really "on fire" and carried the whole room along with him that night! Thanks again, Bob! So much went together to make this day special.
Sunday morning we enjoyed the buffet breakfast, and those who had not gotten an early start for home had the chance to take in the traditional Sunday Morning Devotional in the Texas Lounge. (Always thought it rather interesting to have church in a bar, but hey, we have stained glass windows, right?)
So that's what we did. As to who was there, it would take too much space to post all the names here, but I do have the list. Suffice it to say a lot of "the usual suspects" were very much present. At the business meeting we elected officers, and Michael Jones, who has served us so well as president for the last four years, stepped aside to allow Frank Prudent to take the wheel, with Jo Ann Schoen as Member at Large. Other officers retaining their posts are Katie Blackburn, Secretary, Vic Canfield, Treasurer, Barbara Hameister, Vice President, and Danny Back, Member at Large.
There will be a more detailed report in the next issue of The Riverview in a few weeks.
