Doc's talk: Open House is cancelled

Things are rolling along for Doc's Henry Farnam dinner talk this Friday, with approximately 300 people signed up. We will have a table displaying the DELTA QUEEN's plight along with petitions to sign, courtesy of the Farnam dinner committee. However, I feel I must cancel my Open House, as it is too treacherous to park and try to climb the mounds of ice snowplowed from the streets, to reach my sidewalks. I had hoped that warmer weather might come and melt these away, but no such luck. In fact, more snow is predicted this week, but not on the dinner day. So to those who may have planned to attend my 'museum' open house, I'm sorry. We'll plan something sometime in warmer weather - like maybe getting a group together to take the 2 day TWILIGHT cruise out of LeClaire? And we'll have an Open House WITH Planters Punch even!

An inch of ice has collected on the frozen banks of the Rock River headwaters... My Park Avenue is encased in it as we speak, thankfully the Roadmaster is garaged!

Wasn't MRB, or the Upper Mississippi, Rock & Illinois River Association and Far Western Great Lakes Association planning a Twilight trip in summer anyways???? That would be fun, I for one have never cruised on it...

If they weren't, then maybe an unaffilated group can get something together. Anyone else interested in a 2 day TWILIGHT cruise from LeClaire to Dubuque and back????

Jim,

The brochure price I have is $295 per person. A couple of years ago MOR did the trip, and I think it was $240, as they gave us a group discount. This includes everything - meals, hotel, entertainment. The whole thing was run with fine tuned precision - kind of like a trip on JIM'S DREAM! Overnight accomodations are at the riverfront Grand Harbor Resort, Port of Dubuque.

The JULIA BELLE SWAIN has similiar trips, sometimes 2 nights, which we should look into for a group.
