Since this -might- be the last time she comes through here, I plan to take a lot of photos, etc. as she passes through my area (Cheatham Dam) while enroute to Nashville.

She usually arrives at Cheatham Dam at around 9:00-9:30 PM. on the night before she's scheduled to arrive in Nashville. That means she would be passing though here on the evening of the 13th.

Does anyone here know if she's still using that schedule? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Does anyone know if someone is coordinating a "last visit" send off like the company advertised would be happening this year? I don't get a feeling from reading the message board that there has been anything spectacular taking place so far to commemorate the last visit of the DQ to any of the towns. I have not heard if Nashville has anything planned at all. Of course if I rely on the two local newspapers for that kind of information it will not appear until the day after, if at all. Is it left up to the usual fans and supporters of the boat to come out and wave goodby, which we will be doing anyway.

Ted,

From some info I have as of last April 🙁 Majestic America had a schedule of places where they were going to hold "DELTA QUEEN Tribute Events". There was supposed to have been one in Nashville June 3rd at 5 PM. As far as I know they've held these events, but they've been very low key (having been at a couple). Held on the Texas bow, band playing, a few local VIP's invited aboard to accept some sort of memento. Very few local people showing up on the Landing.

Vicki had a very sucessful event in Cincinnati in May, and Jo Ann organized one in Louisville. They both worked hard, got the media there, etc. We were there with pom poms, signs, etc. I don't think that Majestic America publicizes these events.

On the last cruise, there are events scheduled in Cincinnati Oct. 21 at 4 PM; Louisville Oct. 24 at noon; Grandview on Oct. 25 at noon; and Memphis Oct. 30, time to be determined.

So looks like it's up to you - contact the local media and try to get the word out!

These few remaining days of the DELTA QUEEN are soon going to pass with only a whimper, quite unlike the uproar that should be erupting for an event of cataclysmic historic proportion; unlike the Last Trip of 1970. Hopefully, history will make a repetition and the royal steamboat will be again be spared by another such fluke that once saved the DELTA QUEEN.
