http://cgi.ebay.com/Delta-Queen-STEAMBOAT-crossing-SIGN-paddle-wheel-art_W0QQitemZ300070350432QQihZ020QQcategoryZ43410QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Take a look and laugh! The artist has taken the NATCHEZ, removed her name and replaced it with DELTA QUEEN. Isn't it strange that this person would see value in the name Delta Queen, while the company which owns her has gone Majestic????????

Judy, funny, and at the same time, sad stuff...

The one that really gets me is the painting of the DQ, a painting from behind, head on to the wheel, with the boat having two stacks, one where the real stack is and the "other" about midships behind the first {shaking his head, muttering, walking away}. I see them on eBay all the time. There ought to be a law...

Speaking of eBay, has anybody seen an increase in DQSC stuff being sold since the name is no longer? I saw a PSSOA pin and also the DQSC stationary that was typically in the cabin passenger binders being sold recently. I noticed and took comfort that neither auctions received a bid.

I've seen that horrible painting, and have even emailed the seller to tell them how incorrect it is. Answer: artist's interpretation! And usually its starting price is around $100. It kind of reminds me of the placement of the boats at Robin St - there is an old power company just above it, and when you get the right angle while passing them on the Natchez, it looks like the DQ has 2 huge stacks on either side of her real one. Something that egregiously wrong makes me wonder what the artist was looking at. I haven't been on Ebay much lately and haven't looked at the DQ category for a while. I suspect that in the collectors' world of non-nautical people, that the DQ name absence hasn't hit yet. By the way, the NATCHEZ is used a lot with her name airbrushed out, but that's the first time I've seen it replaced with DQ. Keith found me something in Natchez once which had 'Mississippi' pasted on her nameboard, but never another boat name. Of course, if you go through the Ebay listings for DQ, there are so many things that just have a generic boat, always with 2 stacks, which are titled Delta Queen this or that. But again, I imagine they see this as a positive name to attract bidders. Here's a puzzle that's always for sale, not only 2 stacks, but a sidewheeler to boot! http://cgi.ebay.com/Heronim-1000-pc-puzzle-DELTA-QUEEN-Hometown-Collection_W0QQitemZ300071948461QQihZ020QQcategoryZ19185QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Maybe we'll see an influx of generic boats named Majestic now!!! or swans for sale under DQ...

Someone recently gave me said puzzle. I put it together (not easy) and will add it to my collection of odd-ball steamboat stuff that has landed on my doorstep. I have some doozies.

Cute about the swans, Judy! I somehow don't think most of us are going to be around long enough to want to buy a swan from MAL. It's interesting - in several travel sites that I get info from, none have MAL listed in their list of Cruise Lines - it's all still DQSC that you click on for more info. Now I don't know if that's by choice or chance, since no one has heard of MAL, or if they just havn't been notified of the change in name. Whatever the reason, it's certainly preferable to keep the old name, that has world-wide recognition, whether it's valid or not.
