Are either of our boats caught by the closing of that section of the Mississippi River north of St Louis?

Virginia,

So far no. However, if it lasts into the first week of July...yes.

The section of the UMR closed is from Clarksville Mo up to Fulton IL. That would be river mile 279 to 525. The St. Louis-St. Paul trip goes from 180 to 839. In other words, this is right in the heart of the trip. And don't forget the bridge clearances once the locks open up again.

We are experiencing "100 year" flood levels in WI....given many areas in the Rock River basin, as well as the Wisconsin River basin received 10"-12" of rain in a 24 hour period.

Just saw CNN video showing Mississippi flood level in Hannibal. I kept looking for some familiar reference when I suddenly saw the "Welcome to Hannibal" walkthrough at the landing. You know the one that is two steamboat stacks about 15 feet high with a sign between them saying, "Welcome to Hannial".

The river left only about four feet of those stacks showing. Oh my God!

this is going to last a spell...

The upper Rock basin here in WI is still inundated with the Interstate closed in some spots as well as numerous state roads...

Rain & storms is also forecast for the weekend...

Fair St. Louis moved to higher ground

It was announced on Wednesday that Fair St. Loser and Live on the Levee will be moved from the St. Louis Riverfront to the Soldier's Memorial, near City Hall, this Summer. The fireworks are moved off the river, as well. The current forecast for St. Louis is a crest of about 40 feet this weekend. The 1993 record is 49 feet. Pete, we don't need any more of your rainwater. Send it to the dry Southeast US instead. If it was only that easy...

Capt. Bill Ray called yesterday from St. Louis and said the ol' Mississip' is lapping high on the steps from Leonor K. Sullivan Boulevard (Wharf Street) to the Gateway Arch. They are using a yawl to get to the wharfboat for the excursion boats TOM SAWYER and BECKY THATCHER. Since they can't run, Capt. Bill said they are getting a lot of painting and maintenance chores accomplished. The question I keep hearing is WHY are we having another of these so called "500 Year Floods" just 15 years after the BIG one of 1993?

Hi all,

You might check

WGEM.com: Quincy News, Weather, Sports, and Radio -HOME

They do have a lot of videos about the flooding including an aerial shot of the dam break at Meyer / L&D 20. You can´t even see the lockchamber anymore. There´s also a video of Hannibal showing the town from Lover´s Leap. Go to Page 9 of the video section. There´s a video called Aerial footage from Fort Madison to... It´s a very long video starting in Fort Madison, US 136, Keokuk (the Geo. M. Verity seems to float) and more.

The newspaper at Keokuk is The Daily Gate City and on their website (Keokuk's Daily Gate City Online > Front) is a slide show of dramatic flood photos, several of which show the museum steam towboat GEORGE M. VERITY "sunk" on her concrete pad landing in Victory Park.
