Tomorrow, 2/21/12, The old Fort Stueben Bridge will be blown to pieces at 7:15 AM. I thought it was interesting that they have only 24 hours to clear the channel for river traffic. I am trying to make time to see it live cause it is only about 20 minutes away. Hopefully I will and can post pics or video of it.

Yeah, If someone is going to blow something up it's mandatory that video be shot and posted. Steamboat board or not. 🙂

Saw it this morning on tv. Ergo, it got national coverage. Always a good show for most river pilots. So what is taking its place?

Gomez Addams of TV fame would be pleased with this handiwork.

It was already replaced in 1990 by the Veterans Memorial Bridge which stands about 1000 feet down river of it and is an awsome site. It is a single A-Frame style towering several hundred feet. The VMB was built as part of the Route 22 project which connects Steubenville with Pittsburgh. The Fort Steuben Bridge was open until 2006 "I think". After the VMB was built, It allowed people to avoid the traffic of 22 if they needed to travel directly into Weirton W. Wv. It was also over 80 years old and was deteriorating rapidly. The Market Street Bridge a couple miles south of there has recently had an entire makeover. It is covered with blue and white neon lights acroos the entire span and is bright enough to reflect off the river below. An amazing site.
