*RE: GCG remains in low water*
Hi, Darin & steamboating colleagues:
Darin, thanks for the remarkable contemporary photo of the GORDON C. GREENE remains at St. Louis in low water. Appears not much left of her now. Keith Norrington no doubt will be intrigued with the photo from his experiences with the latter RIVER QUEEN, friendship with long-time mentor, Miss Ruth Ferris. Quite striking and sobering having known/seen the GORDON in Cincinnati and running back then compared to her now.

I am curious about those metal rings, showing in her hull. Could they be the bases of her boilers.Just how many boilers did she have?
They said on the local new in Nashville that the MONTANA is also exposed on the Missouri River.
I would guess that those "rings" are actually manhole accesses into the hull. If you notice the one on the right still has the wooden deck planking around it which made the opening level with the deck, gone are the covers.
The CGC had 4 boilers, three of which were placed on the AVALON about 1955 and the fourth one languished in the mud at the lower end of the Cincinnati wharf for years.
Yes, you are correct. The Montana is currently exposed. I don't know if it is as easy to access as the Gordon C Greene, though. Since the GCG sank on the St. Louis Riverfront, it's extremely easy to access. Here's an article on the Montana:

During 1988 CCH and Ray Samuels were taken out to the remains of the J.M.WHITE, and they were able to walk around her main deck. Has anyone heard if she is coming up again for a breath of fresh air?
Do you Know of any pictures of the J.M. WHITE wreckage?
