I thought I'd start a new thread on what seems to be huge threat to the semi-renovated gal, or mostly-gutted gal as the case may be... I can't seem to get the NOLA BridgeCam to give me an image. Does anybody know if the MQ is to be moved, has been moved or are [...] they just gonna let her take the whipping of Gustav by herself, alone?
I fear the later is the case, and I suspect the company is rootin' for the hurricane in this case...Majestic a compassionate company? Maybe, but I seriously doubt it. Personally I don't think there is a shread of compassion anywhere in that Seattle thinktank, after all money is money, even if it's lowly insurance money...This may be horribly cruel, but scrap metal prices are the same whether the metal is above or below the water.
...somebody, please prove me wrong...

DAVE,,,,,
and don't look like shes going anywhere,,,!!
Thanks Dave, that's the same link I've always tried but, just as in the past, sometimes my Mac with Safari shows nothing, or the top half of the view only...I'll try Firefox...by edit, RiverCam, ParadeCam and QuarterCam all work great for me, both Firefox and Safari. BridgeCam is a big black nothing...
I also received an e-mail about the situation, as of this afternoon, on the MQ...quoting anonymously "They have added additional lines and secured everything that they can...now hoping for the best."
The Coast Guard closed the river this afternoon up to mile 300 AHP, with special exceptions to be made. I doubt very much if the MQ is one of these exceptions. If they were going to move her, they would have. The last I looked, NOLA was on the edge of the hurricane force winds (75+) and it looks like water is going to be the worst offender. If the MQ's hull is ok, she's in as good a spot as any realistically. She's ready for the water... those of us who have seen her recently and who know the pax counts on the AQ, probably know what MAL intends for her...and if Mother Nature could lend a hand, it would be cheaper....
From the looks on NOLA Bridge cam the MQ is doing OK ,,you can sure see the cam moving around in the wind ,,,
NOLA's highest wind gust was about 75, and most of the winds were 40ish. The stronger winds are now hitting Baton Rouge, some up to 90. Of course, that's where the NATCHEZ went for safe harbor - actually to Bayou Goula downriver from Baton Rouge. I talked to my neighbor this afternoon, who stayed at the BK House. He had been out walking the streets. There has been very little rain and not terrible winds. Of course the center of attention is now the Industrial Canal, where a boat and barges broke loose and the water is sloshing over the lower canal wall on the upriver side(city), across from the Lower 9th. They had built the downriver wall higher, but hadn't gotten to the upriver side yet. Presuming the winds are dying down by now, the water level should also be receding. Just so the boat/barges don't slam the walls, like in Katrina...
Just checked the bridge cam at 5:14 EST. Looks like middle sister made it.

Steamer Natchez update
I just talked to Capt. Nicoulin on the Natchez. He says that they made it up to Bayou Goula and were tied up by 4:30 this morning. He said that the river only came up about 8 to 10 feet, and he also mentioned that there wasn't really much rain, but a lot of wind. He said that, as of 9 PM tonight, things onboard the boat were good and they were gonna head back down to the city when things were deemed safe. Though New Orleans, "isn't out of the woods yet" this sure is a good start.
God Bless New Orleans!!
I am so happy to hear that the Steamer NATCHEZ is safe and sound. I pray that the rest of New Orleans will come through this OK.
