A whistle salute and cally-ope serenade today in honor of David Tschiggfrie's birthday. Dubuque's steamboat buff extraordinaire, former DQ crew member and father of Jonathan Tschiggfrie (who has followed in his dad's footsteps) I have treasured Dave's friendship for the past 37 years.
A gentleman and human being of the highest order, nobody could ask for a better friend.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVE!!!!

P.S. I won't disclose Dave's milestone birthday today, but here's a clue. He was "launched" the same year that the Str. GOLDEN EAGLE sank for the second (and final) time -- and the year that the DQ came to the Mississippi River system!

How Many 0's?

This is, indeed, a milestone year.

Reference John Hartford's song, Miss Ferris: "That old sternwheeler sank and when to heaven when I was in the fourth grade in 194__..."

HBD David. The Rabbit Hash Shipyard will be closed for a week in celebration of this momentous occasion.

Thanks to all my river friends for your kind and thoughtful birthday greetings. Yes, sixty years have seen a lot of good times and wonderful memories made on the rivers and steamboats of this country, and I am truly blessed to have shared these adventures and memories with so many of you! This morning I received another special treat of a birthday calliope serenade live from the roof of the NATCHEZ through the courtesy of Judy Patsch manning her cellphone and Capt. Doc Hawley manning the keyboard! Technology is amazing! Just one more of those priceless memories that bind the steamboating family together. Hope to see some of my river friends again in the months ahead. Again, thanks for your warm wishes!
