Happy birthday, Cappy, Thanks for everything:)
If you're not careful, Don, the next thing you know you'll be as old as I. Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday, Cap--Roger beat me to it!! We also had no internet connection until this morning, so I'm a little late, but I sure hope your day was great. Looking for any help over there on that big old casino boat of yours?? I'll be back in town in nine days! Steamboat Mary
Thanks....
Thank you dear friends for your kind sentiments. Each of you have been very special in my life, and I am grateful to call you my friends and fellow crew mates.
After a double shift at the boatyard, yesterday, I did spend some special time with my 91-year-young mother, and we shared reviewing my 67-yo Baby Book. October 11, 1941 was, according to my baby book, as pleasant a day as was October 11, 2008, and it was a Saturday, too.

Happy Birthday Shipyard Sam!
The calliope is playing Happy Birthday to you and in a moment a harbour salute on the whistle!

P.S. The attached pic shows a very young Homer Denney on the Coney Island Steame PRINCESS (a 21 note Nichol calliope)
Don,
A belated Happy Birthday from Mile 579 UMR also! We were up in St. Paul visiting Jonathan at college yesterday and today, and so I missed this notable occasion Saturday. Hope your day was a great one. Attached below are some crew mates of yours from the golden olden days. It was snapped in Lock 10, Guttenberg, IA on July 20, 1960 as the AVALON was locking soutbound to make her next dates (a double-header at Guttenberg/Cassville, and then on to Dubuque.) Our birthday boy was busy handling the stern line at the time, and so doesn't appear in this group shot. All my very best wishes to a dear river friend.
Cap: As you know we closed the shipyard in your honor here at Rabbit Hash. Be it known that we did not forget you on the Licking River Caper which has not been run off yet. We can't find Clifford though we blowed MISSIE's whistle up there yester. Big Bone Lick Marina is under new management and Boat Dock Joe is no longer there. Cap'n Walnut...
Here's another belated Happy Birthday wish, since I'm off the computer on weekends! Hope it was a good one.
Well, gosh darn it, I guess that I missed this birthday too. The only excuse I have is that I was runnin' around New York with MOR riding and chasing the Str. CHAUTAUQUA BELLE. You should have closed the shipyard, for a day or two, and headed up with us to the northern most reaches of the Ohio River System. Oh well, Happy Birthday, anyway!
Thanks again, everyone. I appreciate your kinds sentiments. At this moment I am taking a breather from the pain fumes, here at the Decatur yard on the beautiful Tennessee River. Lot's of work going on, here; much of it on large wooden boats. This boatyard is on of the last hold-outs of inland woodies, and much of the crafts"man"ship is being done by boat-loving Alabama river women.
Happy Belated Birthday, Capt, from apple country now, and as of earlier this morning from the Great White North. I'm know it was your birthday that was responsible for the fantastic weather!
Sorry we missed it but we're hoping the day was a great one.
