Just a note from Louisville, on the beautiful Ohio, to wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a wonderful 2008. May your new year be happy, healthy and free of snags and sandbars. And, let us all remember those members of our "river family" who are dealing with illness and loss of family members this year.

Hope to see y'all in 2008 at the Howard Steamboat Museum, where you're always welcome!

In this season of lights, here are two final photos of the late, great RIVER QUEEN aglow at night.

KEEP UP STEAM and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Fast away the old year passes! Had a quiet afternoon yesterday at the Howard Steamboat Museum, although we did have some visitors, including a lady who plays the flute in an orchestra and mainly wanted to buy a calliope CD in the gift shop. While we were having delicious apple cake and mugs of hot chocolate in the museum office, Keith Baylor came in to use some research materials - always good to see him and visit. Yvonne and I rooted in the attic for a while in various boxes and trunks, looking over things we might put on display in 2008 when the museum's golden anniversary will be celebrated.

For those looking for new river books, please visit www.littleriverbooks.com where Jack Simpson is having a BIG sale, as he and his wife prepare to move to an apartment. Jack was editor of The Waterways Journal for many years and has a great website.

Hope everybody had a festive Christmas celebration! One of my holiday highlights was a telephone conversation with Capt. Charles Henry Stone, always a delight in every way!

Happy New Year!
