If all goes according to plan, on Tuesday I will be joining the Delta Queen in Nashville, TN. Unlike many readers and poster on this board, I am not returning for a trip but rather serving 30 days on board as a crew member.
My attempt to return to the Marine Industry has resulted in my going back to the very start of my career. It's been 32 years since I first worked on her. It will be interesting to note changes, thing that have stayed the same, and what is considered "new" that is really old revisited.
I hope those of you who have trips planned will say Hi!. It's nice to put a face to a name. I have no misconseptions about returning to "the old days" but I'm sure places and events will cause the memories to flood me sometimes.
I'm going on the boat as a "green hand" with a little boat experiance behind me. As long as it has been, a little is all I remember. I do plan on apperciating each day a little more, each river sunset a little longer and hope I can add something to each persons trip, crew or passenger, as I know how time on the D. Q. can have a life time of effect and memories on anyone that is board her.
Working any boat requires hard work but words echo "Make your work your pleasure" and I think this is going to be interesting.

Fred, congrats and best of luck! 30 days puts you anboard until July 2nd? Maybe with a little luck we'll cross paths as Deb and I get onboard in Cincy on July 1st along with a few other dot.orgers.

Don't be a stranger, were in 338, starboard Sun Deck. A new stateroom for us, but it comes with blazing endorsements from others on this board.

Can't wait!

Hey, that's our room!! So why don't you and Deb stay in the cool north & we'll sacrifice and occupy it for you two--after all, it'll be hot & muggy by then. . . . You can come stay at our place and run the Theater on July 3 &4 for the annual community band patriotic concerts.
Fred, what's your position onboard? Hard to say "HI" if we don't know where you'll be! (although we don't get to be onboard until Aug 19)

Fred, expect your 30 days will be up on July 1st, the day we arrive. Are you just doing one 30 day stint, or is that your normal rotation in returning to the boat for a permanent job - what is your position? Helps to know where to look for you! If we don't see you this trip, our next one is August 19th - big bunch of .orgers on that one, and the week following.

Fred,

Congratulations! Let us all know more -- what position, etc. As hard as it will be, try not to say, "Why, in the old days....."! Looking forward to hearing more.

For Some Of Us ............................................

Fred ,

For some of us , and I certainly can't speak for everyone , We Never Left . Although we were not there in the physical world , you know as well as I do , our minds , spirits and memories were always there on that old boat and for that matter they will always still be there !

NEW PLAN
My return to the D. Q. has been moved to 9 June at Cincinnati due to paperwork issues. I will be returning to fill a Manitanence position. I guess after 32 years, a few more days won't make any difference.
