Steamboating colleagues:
The U.S. Mail just arrived and with it Barb & Steve Huffman's '2007 Calendar Gas & Oil Engine Sternwheel Towboats.' All first rate from the cover color tint photo of the HELEN Z to the perky little LOUISE for December, 2007. One for each month of the new year. Fetching photos showing the boats at various jobs, landings or just tooling on the river. The SCOTT, Ward Engineering Works, Charleston, W. Va., 1930, is a real eye catcher. Informative paragraph 'bios' on the boats tell of their lives and adventures from beginning to career end.
Price: $15.95 + $4.50 shipping and handling to = Calendar, 11 Ashland Cove Road, Vevay, IN 47043. Good work Steve and Barb.
Cheers,
R. Dale Flick
And you can order on line, too. It's easy. My favorite way to view my annual Huffman calendar is to wait until the next month comes 'round before I look at that month's illustration and narrative. As fast as time flies, it seems the pages zoom by as just as quickly. How many editions is this one? Four? Five?
Also check out the June, I believe, 1996 S&D Reflector: Cap'n Way wrote some most enlightening stuff about "gas boats". Fred went a long way telling about these transitional boats that still sported the look of a steamboat, but not quite yet a diesel as we think of that mode of propulsion today.
The new calendar arrived at my landing and, as usual, it's a dandy! Every boat buff and buffette will want one of these to grace their homes and offices during the new year -- which is not far away folks! Don't delay, order today!!!
