Just received the sad news from Judy Patsch that PM, her faithful feline of 18 years, departed for kitty cat heaven this morning following a rapid decline. Those of us who are "owned" by cats truly understand how these creatures take us over and leave forever pawprints on our hearts. PM was much more than "just a cat" and was well known for his visits to residents at St. Anthony's Nursing Home, where he brightened the day for many residents. PM was even featured in an illustrated article in the Church of Peace UCC newsletter for his ministry.

Some posters on this board who have visited Judy's Middle Upper Mississippi River Museum have had the pleasure of meeting PM, the MagnifiCAT. May he rest in peace and my heartfelt condolences to Judy in the passing of her very special and longtime companion.

I would also like to add my condolences on the passing of PM. I know about cats that put pawprints on your heart. A friend of mine said all pets should have three names, just like people do. I said that's easy. Then mine's name is Hobo Rotten Kitty!

Thanks for posting, Keith.

Judy, I'm so sorry to hear about PM - I know how much all of your cats mean to you.

Pat

Judy, sorry for the news about PM. It's tough, for sure, and when 'Cosmo' the cat here fell ill after 16 years it was tough. Doubly tough as I'd had 'Cosmo' before I had a wife. [!] Our little furry and feathered friends mean a lot. Had a tropical Angel fish in a big aquarium that got bigger and bigger. I could put my hands down in the water and 'Lucky' the fish would swim over and nestle down in my palm. He'd see me enter the room and swim along the inside of the big tank like a little puppy waiting to be fed and tended to. He lived a good three years. We're with you.

Cheers,
R. Dale Flick

Judy,
JoAnn and I share in your loss. With us, it's dogs but the loss is the same whenever one of them passes. We have had a couple of cats in the mix over the years.
All of 'em came from the streets, off the interstate, or just plain wandered up and stayed and several were injured. Time will help and the memories will never leave. All the best to you.

Judy,
Condolences from Linda & David out here on Dewey Mountain. We have a Cockatiel that is 28 years old, and I fully expect one morning we will not have him (average age is 15 years--think we've had his companionship a good long time!) Our pets do become important members of our families.

From Ole JOHNNY DEW

My heart goes out to Judy on the loss of PM, her dear kitty-companion of many years. Fish and I had an extrodinary yellow cat she named JOHNNY DEW who was like a "son" to us. Dew had thumbs and was an evolutionary marvel who could use his paws like hands, especially to grasp and hold dogs by the neck.

The famous PM

PM was truly special. If you ever visited here, you met PM. Unlike the other 3 kids, who are more 'independent' and scared, PM would always be at the door to greet whomever. It seems so strange to come in the house now without that cheery greeting. PM was in our high school yearbook in the Teachers' Pets section; he was in Mom's newspaper obit photo; he was allowed in the hospital when Mom was unresponsive to humans; he sat through an entire church service without a sound as we told about his special place in life - visiting St. Anthony's Nursing Home. My mother was there for 8 months and PM and I were there daily, missing only 8 days in that time. Before I could take him into Mom though, we had to visit a couple of other residents and the nursing staff got to greet him. After Mom died, almost 3 years ago, PM continued to visit the residents several times a month, his last visit coming this past September. He was really St. Anthony's unofficial therapy cat. The name PM was given him by his first owner, our neighbor who moved and left PM behind when he was a year old. Of course, he ended up at 921 for a wonderful 17 years. Below you see him jockeying for chair rights with Mom(she eventually gave up and moved), and the King in his Casita PM, his very own screened house - a necessity because when left unwatched briefly he often jumped the chain link fence to socialize with the neighbor cats, and yes, this past summer at age 17 he scaled that 5 foot fence 5 times! Obviously this thread has nothing to do with rivers and steamboats, other than my river of tears, but thanks to Franz for allowing it, as I'd hate to have to tell and retell this sad news individually. This is the 8th time I've gone through this, but its definitely the worst one. Thanks for all your concern.1276.jpg1277.jpg1278.jpg
