While I believe her COI was renewed after inspection last summer, some local pundits have mentioned that the obvious stumbling blocks are mechanical in nature. Specifically, the genset (which needs replacment), and apparently the boiler, although I am not certain anyone knows the true condition of the boiler.
Great news Eric
I miss seeing the JBS huffing and puffing in the 8 Pool...been way too long. Let's hope she will raise steam again some day.
Eric, thank you for the update. Please keep us posted as to any new develops! I know there are a bunch of JBS fans that are hoping she will come out like a shinny new penny!

I was in LAX about a week ago and took the opportunity to stop over at French Island. The only difference I noticed from the last few times I've stopped there is that the tarps covering her calliope, scapes and stacks had gone missing. I'm hoping that might be a good sign?
*'Missing tarps' a good sign?*
Hi, Jon & steamboating colleagues,
Thanks for the above RE: 'JBS Developments' and I wish the boat only the best. The tarps covering her calliope, scapes and stacks not in place may be, as you say, a good sign. Yet, good tarps are expensive and 'marine tarps' even more so. I'd hope that, until some action begins on the JBS, they re-cover all of the above. Stacks/funnels/ventilators on any boat/ship need to be covered in place to keep rain water [snow, ice in winter] from draining down inside causing more mischef and mayhem. Even the grand and glorious U.S. Navy has learned their lessons on this in the past. An uncovered calliope ready 'bait' for those seeking souvenirs and keepsakes--a little. Keep up posted. Cheers!

Agreed regarding the calliope! We all saw what happened with the MQ's. I hope that Brennan knows how valuable that instrument is. Its history is very unique, and there is no other instrument even built the same way as this particular calliope.
Does anybody think she will stay in La Crosse, WI or operate somewhere else.
It sure would be good to have an update on this situation. Seems that time is giving fewer developments than I would have expected. I hope this is still meaning good things are on the horizon!
Yes, thank you, thank you. I'll do the best with her that I can.
- Just kidding.
The JBS is my favorite currently existing steamboat.
