I received my copy of the Majestic America Lines book of cruise schedules, etc. for 2007. (The itineraries do show Theme cruises) It upsets me that our three boats are now classified as MISSISSIPPI SHIPS!!! Ouch! I feel like I have been thrown into the ocean! I learned from Toots that boats (flat bottoms) were on the river and v-shaped vessels were on the ocean.
Did I misunderstand somewhere? The Majestic Ladies will always be Steamboats to me. David Giersdorf, President MAL, I will be glad to give up that premium bathrobe and TV for better fair rates!!!

Would someone 'splain to me what I'm gonna do with a fancy bathrobe in my tiny cabin on the DQ? Or am I supposed to save space in my suticase for it?

PS I THINK you'll find me out on the deck watchin' th' wheel (or down in the engine room). (Hmm, not a good place for a bathrobe either! 🙂 )
OK so now we have a comedy act that could actually be funny. So, even though I understand the anger--- I want everyone to imagine the ages, shapes, and sizes of the many DQ passengers who could not fit much in their suitcases and were also weight restricted by the airlines so there were no more bottles of shampoo, perfume, or other liquid toiletries. They are lined up by the Calliope with only their robes on and nothing else underneath and a big breeze with go by too as they do the finale to Chorus Line or ShowBoat together.
What a sight folks! Imagine putting that picture on the cover of the next brochure?! Oh my.
I know that I am being wicked here but the final act would be tossing the luxury robes into the river in protest.
David,
I suspect Deb and I will deposit the bathrobe the same place we store the life preservers and our luggage...under the bed. Whoever designed the mattress frames did an excellent job in providing hidden storage space. There's no room to hang up a bulky robe...there's just enough room to hang up our dress-up clothes on the swing hook and not knock the clothes off when you go out on deck. I'm making the small side by side bed stateroom, the "F", sound cramped, but it really isn't. You and Linda will see, 5 weeks tonight?
I was concerned, as MAL was touting "all new premium mattresses" for their boats, and if you study the fancy schmancy swans brochure, the AQ and the MQ are referenced with these luxury items along with the TV/DVD stuff. However, no such mention for the DQ.
That's good...for awhile I thought Deb and I were going to lose our storage. And I can't fathom were you would get the luggage out of the way in an "F".
A question...in the DQ bunk rooms, the new "G", where do people store the life preserver and their suitcases? And I vaguely remember two large pullout drawers under the bottom bunk, true?
And Judy, "...seven swans a swimming...", almost lost my coffee. Thanks for the chuckle.

In the 338 type bunk rooms, I have no idea what class they are now, the life preservers were in the drawers under the bunks. I immediately stored them behind the toilet - they fit there nicely, allowing for drawer storage space. Whenever I had a roommate it was on the 'share' basis, and was usually another veteran steamboater, so the first thing we'd do would be to rearrange the room to make as much space as possible. I'd suggest lying the new bathrobe out flat under your spread, to be used as a blanket in case you get a very cool room. Or you could put the bathrobe, presumably white, over the deck chairs to save your clothes from the 'occasional' soot on the Sun Deck. I guess that new stack really helped that problem, but I can't imagine some soot doesn't still find its way onto the furniture.
What an idea, Judy! Actually, that reminds me-where are they going to store all the re-supply of robes?
In my short time with the boats, the complimentary items got less expensive each year but also less problems with storage or shrinkage.
Wonder if there will be a new pin? a swan pin rather than a boat or the PSSOA pins. hhhmmmmnn
This reminds me of the story of the 78-year old gal who was standing on deck in a summer dress and a new hat. She was holding onto the railing with one hand and the hat with the other, as it was breezy. One of the deckhands noticed the breeze was blowing her dress up, so he politely told her of the situation. Her response was, "Honey, what you're seeing down there is 78 years old, this hat I just bought yesterday!"
Hmm, use the bathrobes as deck chair covers--I like that, nice an practical!
