If you visit http://www.majesticamerica.com/mississippi/ , you can view MAL's new "microsite" on their Mississippi River voyages, mainly on the American Queen. It's linked to various places within the worthless MAL website, but not in the most obvious of spots. Take a look at it. Maybe it is a sign that they are taking their Middle America boats more seriously.
Interesting...I didn't see a whole bunch of DQ mentioned though. Matter of fact I saw zilch...
Interesting that on the first page where you select what feature of the cruise you want to hear about is a gold ol' picture of the forward cabin bow of the Legendary One. And all the boat whistle audio you hear? I'll bet money that ain't no American Queen whistle...
And I have a question for all... What's the point of not going to Chattanooga anymore, one of my favorite trips?
Here is my favorite part of the new microsite:
"As the ship departs, you'll feel that you've slipped into a more gentile era."
Good grief.....has MAL spent so much money on the new sheets and spa robes that they had to fire the copy editor and/or proofreader, and there's no one left that knows the difference between the words "gentile" and "genteel"?
I think it is all part of the MAL plan to create their own language and histories for the boats. Why spend time verifying things, when you can just make it up? So, probably, as the Delta Queen fight heats up, the whoppers of lies will fly around. I'm sure someone will infer that the boat is 100 years old. What about the famous one about presidents? They could say that every president since James Garfield has cruised on the boat. And, half the world would believe them.
Darin,
Alas, this is nothing new. The Greene Line under Muster/Betty Blakehad a yarn spinner who was without peer. Others have done it, and continue to do it all the time. So many times, those that aren't "into" history think that you have to spice it up with lies and half-truths to make it interesting. Of course, we know better, but I'm sure it will continue.
Bob,
Are we talking about Don Deming? You mean to tell me he wasn't telling the truth?
Okay, I will stop now!
~Travis~
I suppose YOU were the one playing the DQ calliope in the Panama Canal, Travis??????
