Steamboating colleagues:
'Cincinnati Art Galleries,' 225 E. 6th St., Cincinnati, OH., sponsors an opening reception today, Sept. 28, 2006 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM featuring Michael Blaser, 'The Official 2006 Tall Stacks Artist of riverboat and American waterfront paintings.' Today's reception will feature Creole food by 'A la Carte Catering' and ragtime music by 'The Dancing Pigs.'
As a special addition John Fryant, builder of fascinating steamboat models now on exhibit in the Smithsonial Museum of American History in Washington, D.C. and other museums, has joined forces with Michael to produce a stellar show. This exhibit coordinates with Tall Stacks, 2006 and will continue through October 21st. If you plan on being in town for Tall Stacks take time ro 'run up the hill' to 6th Street for a long look. All paintings may be viewed at: www.cincyart.com
The Cincinnati Public Landing, Sawyer Point Park, Newport and Covington, KY. are hives of activity with construction crews, welders, pipes, hoses, tents, stages, sound systems etc. being moved in place for Tall Stacks next week. Nelson Jones and crew were paddling up and down here yesterday moving their boats and steam barge in place for the big week.
Let's wish Michael Blaser, John Fryant and the Tall Stacks event the very best with wishes for bright autumn days.
Cheers,

Thanks Dale
Thanks for the interesting information. I will be in town for Tall Stacks and if I have a spare chunk of time, I will "go up the hill" to the art show.
Thanks, Dale, your info allowed Miss Carol and me to attend this gala affair. John Fryant was there with his superb models including his great ISLAND QUEEN. Michael's art was riviting to those of us who grew up around the Cincinnati harbor. If not an absolute crush, there was a goodly crowd of mostly folks that I do not know and assume many are patrons of the arts rather than the river rats that I know. The Flying Pigs were flying just above ground zero and dispensing their brand of river tunes in a fashion that bid fair to start a hoe-down. There was food and beaverage being dispensed as well as erudite commentary from the two exhibitors about their respective exhibits.
I'd recommend it even though the two exhibitors may not be there.

Hi, Tom:
I was at the gala opening of the Blaser/Fryant art and model show last night at 'Cincinnati Art Galleries.' I tugged on my party rags and headed down about 5:00 PM. We missed each with the big crowd who were milling around admiring not only Blaser's fine paintings and Fryant's models of the NELLIE G., CHICOT, SUSIE, ISLAND QUEEN, QUEEN CITY, but the many other paintings by renowned artists locally, the U.S. and abroad of ships, boats, seascapes, harbors: Gruppe, Bicknel, Weis, Selden, Hawksworth, Seissons of the last 100years.
As you say the crowd was decidedly 'upscale' reminiscent of the fine galleries in New York, Chicago, Boston etc. The fine buffet and wine bar had a steady stream of visitors. What were the price ranges for the paintings? I wrote down in my notes $650 to $75,000. The 'Dancing Pigs' band received much applause with pictures being snapped all around. Mike Blaser and John Fryant were beaming with pride and they well deserved it.
Those visiting for Tall Stacks, if up in town, should make it a must to drop in at the gallery located at 225 East Sixth St. Type in: www.cincyart.com or [email protected] if you want to brouse via the electronic highway first.
Cheers,
