The summer meeting of the Midwest Riverboat Buffs will be in Hannibal Mo. on Saturday June 9 and Sunday June 10. This is a change from our usual Friday/Saturday setup due to a lack of hotel rooms on Friday night. We've got a block of rooms under MRB at the Best Western Riverside in downtown, $99+tax a night. Activities will be announced later, but a boat ride and dinner at a playhouse with a Mark Twain presentation will surely be on the agenda. Plan ahead to join us at mile 309 UMR!
Mark Twain's Boyhood Home and River
The Best Western is formerly the Hotel Clemens and affords a commanding view of the Mississippi River and Jackson's Island, as well as being only a few steps from the historic district containing Mark Twain's house, numerous shops, museums, and the Mark Twain Dinette where they make their own root beer! When I last visited Hannibal in 2003 it was good to see how the riverfront has been revitalized. The new Mark Twain Museum is very nice and well worth a visit.
I'm sure that President Judy and Capt. Jim will have a full weekend of fun and fellowship planned for the MRB both beside and on the Mississippi!
Hannibal should provide a full weekend of events, we'll keep everyone posted!
