What would you do about all that rust.
Thank You,
Hello, I'm Tom Hughes,
I was a dealer on the Diamond Lady. Day 1 Bettendorf and also moved to Mississippi for two years. The Diamond Lady experience was the greatest time of my life. Thank You for posting pics and I've enjoyed reading your posts too.
You're absolutely right about the "Vibe" of the Diamond Lady. It was a new exciting life for everybody that worked there. We had a camaraderie that couldn't be beaten. I run into Diamond Lady coworkers at almost every casino I go to. We all sadly agree, There will never be another Diamond Lady. Everything else is just a business.
On the Diamond Lady I got to do everything. I dealt the tables, worked in the bank, attended the slots like the rest of the dealers, But I also stayed late to help hard-count, served drinks, worked in soft-count a couple days when a girl got hurt in car accident. I always got to work early for the second shift. Most days I helped tie down the boat when it arrived at the dock. Once I got to help change a motor. I was already familiar with the CAT 916's from my Army days. Everyday I wanted to learn more about "My" boat.
I just recently learned Chef Ken's secret the sauteed onions that was served with the swordfish. He made his own wine for the sauce. No wonder I couldn't buy it anywhere. Chef Tim told me about it. He just moved in across the street from me. 34 years but I finally know. LOL!
If I ever get rich enough I'd like to bring the Diamond Lady back to the Quad Cities where she belongs. Back then my wife was jealous "You'd live on that boat if you could." She was right and I divorced her. I'd rather have my Diamond Lady back.
The Diamond Lady
Jim Saw you post re the Diamond Lady and she is currently setting abandoned on McKellar Lake in Memphis. Perhaps you have see the video of her there but if not check it out. She looks a little rough but I have seen a lot worse ones on another abandoned riverboat site on the internet when I was looking for one for a media company un Burbank California who are trying to do an abandoned riverboat show. Wouldn't it be great to get a bunch of us riverboat buffs and bring her back? I love the older riverboats they really have a lot of character. Check out the Goldenrod site an the Delta Queen both on Facebook. The Goldenrod is being scrapped and they hope to open a riverboat museum in St Louis which does not have one.
