Greetings From New Orleans ,
Yesterday , the 28th. of February , while on an assignment and as I was passing through the New Orleans harbor I spoke on the radio to my friend and new Captain of the Str. American Queen , Capt. Rob Deluca . He informed me that the Str. American Queen was in the process of shipping up and that she was scheduled to start the 2008 schedule tomorrow the 1st. of March . He also indicated to me that for the next few months that the AQ will be making seven day round trips from New Orleans to Natchez and back . I was also told that the Str. Delta Queen will be shipping up and starting the 2008 schedule the 15th of April and that the immediate future of the Str. Mississippi Queen is still unclear and its any ones guess when she will be shipped up . Hopfully the 2008 schedule will be successful and a profitable one and that the future of the Str. Delta Queen will be resolved .

She still has the infamous blue, I see. but on a positive, it seems like the paddlewheel is good and red!
I was wondering if anybody has passed the DQ lately to see if they painted the splashboard royal blue as they were predicting...or did Majestic America Line abandon that idea?
Splash Board - Still Red - Thank God !
Bruno ,
As of 9:10 am , this Feb. 29th. morning , the Splash Board on the Str. Delta Queen is still red . I am passing the DQ now as I type and Yes , it is still red . Now , no telling what it may be five minutes from now , but I can speak with authority that for now at least it is still red . This sort of thing makes you wonder , whos is running the I will give you an up date if anything changes .

Thanks, Ted, appreciate it...
By the way, Deb and I and a few other dot.orgers get on the AQ next Saturday, the 8th, returning the 15th. If you see us go by, give us a wave...or a whistle, if allowed...

Bruno,
Please tell all members of my entertainment family that I said hello. Both Phil AND Jackie Bankston are aboard in their respective venues (Phil-Captain's Bar, Jackie-ERB) so you will have a great time.
Incidentally, you will also be treated to the return to the boats of one of the most talented and beautiful entertainers ever on the AQ. Paula Betlam will be marking her return to the ranks as one of the cast members. She is a true treasure. Enjoy her!
Paul
Paul
Paul, wanna join us? I suspect there are a few rooms left, you know we'd love to have you with us... I think Deb and I know Jackie from one DQ cruise many moons ago, we'll have to see.
No problem, Deb and I will pass your good wishes to all. Will definitely miss you, my friend. You know, on instant demand, I can still hear you singing "Do you know what it means...". Some would consider that a curse, but I sure don't see it that way...
Phil has promised to do Louie, Louie again and he's also hinted at trying Steely Dan, my favorite, on the calliope. If anybody in NOLA hears "Rosie" or "Peg" via calliope, blame me.
It's time, really REALLY time, Deb and I need the sun and I got a bad case of the shakes. About this time every winter I just gotta say New York winters just s-ck! New York is fine, very pretty, pristine, upstate wilderness and wildlife and all that jazz, up to Goundhog's day, after that it's nothing more than a mess, physically and more importantly mentally...It was 4 below last night, the coldest we've seen this winter. Can't imagine what Jazzou and Diane are going through, but then again they have the benefit of buck-two-fifty lobstah tails! Should I tell you it is snowing so hard RIGHT NOW that all my outside motion detector security lights are going off and on like Christmas lights and my satellite modem lights are flickering off as I type this? Pray for us...Deb has the positive image, March in like a lion (which right now seems like a lion in need of a root canal) supposedly means March will go out like a lamb.
Will be thinking of you in 8 days, hope you are well. See you on the rivers, very soon we hope.
B. and Deb
One more from me and Deb...
If any dot.orgers are on the March 8th American Queen New Orleans round trip seven nighter, please, PLEASE don't be a stranger. Deb and I are in room 429, you'll recognize the room due to our wonderful name plaque next to our door that my bestest steamboatin' buddy made for us. Introduce yourselves...please...I suspect you will also see me around asking for everybody to sign a petition, I'll also be doing a speil about unions versus fire safety. The first ten (10) people that sign get a free "Save the Delta Queen button"...how could you resist?
Hey Bruno
Be sure to ask Jackie to play. . .if you're lookin for me I just left. . . and tell her Elaine says hi and playing her CD while I managed a pottery painting store was a huge hit every time.
Of course I told the customers that to get a copy, they had to ride the steamboats but that was OK.
Have a fabulous time as I know you will!
Cheers
Elaine
That looks more like Buford
