Considering the rate with which the oil spill is growing, is it possible that the slick could interfer with the shipping using the Southwest Pass? Would this require the Pass to be closed?
What effect would this have on river traffic?
Just something to think about.

Full Speed Ahead And Dam The Torpedoes !

Greetings From Oil Slick Central !
Early this morning I placed a call to the " Bar " Pilots office , that other Louisiana , State Pilot Association and had an indepth conversation with one of their well versed and highly informed dispatchers .
He informed me that as of this morning there was no plans to either slow or stop the flow of either inbound or out bound ships that use Southwest Pass .
A few years ago there was a tow/ship collision in the New Orleans harbor , resulting with one of the oil leaking barges pinned aganist the Greater New Orleans Highway Bridge . To combat this situation , the inbound ships passed through the resulting oil slick and then stopped and anchored just above the Jackson Ave. Ferry so as to facilitate smaller vessels to come out and steam-pressure wash the hulls of the anchored ships . I was at one time thinking that they may employ this same operation just above Southwest Pass but once again according to the " Bar " pilot's dispatcher , for the time being at least the flow of ship traffic with not be hindered by either oil slicks or torpedoes ! Teddy Roosevelt would have been proud !
Smooth Sailing !
