We docked on the Monongahela, just across from the incline. Is that Wood St.? I've only been to Pittsburgh twice, so I don't know the area. In that pix, Gabe is playing as we're leaving a lock somewhere on the Upper Ohio.

We are trying to decide about staying an extra day in Cinnci or Pittsburgh. The offical MAL city tour for Pittsburgh says that it includes a view of Pittsburgh from the top of Mt. Washington. Does anyone know if that probably does or does not include a ride on the Duquesne Incline?

It seems a shame to rush into the start and end ports without seeing those cities as well as Maysville, Point Pleasant, Marietta, and Wheeling

Bruce, I don't know the answer to your question, but I will tell you this. Capt. Gabe is from Pittsburgh and if he tells you to be up at 3AM to see Pittsburgh from the river, DO IT! It's incredibly beautiful with the city and huge fountain all lit up.

Bruce, as there is nothing really up on Mount Washington except the wonderful view and the inclines I suspect that a ride on the Duke Incline is part of the package.

If not, take a taxi, it's a short ride from the landing across the Liberty bridge and up the hill.

And if you have time tour the WWII submarine docked nearby just west of the landing.

Walk across the Smithfield St. Bridge, then walk into the former P&LE Railroad station (now hotel/restaurant or other yuppified establishment) take in the beauty of the building. Walk to the MON. INCLINE, Ride up, exit, walk toward the Duquesne Incline, taking a few pictures as you go, RIDE DOWN, then UP walk back to the MON Ride down. There used to be (before the Earth's crust was cool) a restaurant or other watering hole where refreshment could be obtained along the way on Mt. Washington. The view is spectacular and well worth the cost of the Funicular (Incline) (Elevator) rides!

If a pedestran walkway still exists on the downriver side of the Smithfield St. Bridge (it still did in Streetcar [PCC] days) photo opportunities exist there also.
