Mark your calendars for SATURDAY, JULY 27th for the ninth program in my "River Ramblings" educational lecture series at the Howard Steamboat Museum. The program will begin at 3:00 PM (EDT) which gives river buffs and buffettes the opportunity to ride the Str. BELLE of LOUISVILLE on her afternoon cruise and have plenty of time to drive over to the museum.

The presenter for this year's program will be my good friend of 41 years, Capt. Kevin Mullen, whose topic will be BELLE of LOUISVILLE: 28 YEARS OF MEMORIES and MAGICAL MOMENTS. For those who heard Capt. Kevin speak at last year's S&D meeting, this will not be exactly the same presentation. Kevin told me that, while driving home from Marietta, he thought of things he forgot and came up with a somewhat different talk; the one he wished he'd given! This will be a wonderful "prelude" to the upcoming festivities for the Belle's centennial celebration in 2014.

Admission to the program is $5 per person. We also are again having the "Riverboat Rummage Sale", featuring many used river books, steamboat tee shirts and river related trinkets that have been donated for the cause. All proceeds will benefit the museum operating fund. As usual, Judy Patsch will serve as "purser" and will, as usual, bring over a cargo of cookies!

Following the program, the fellowship continues with an informal group gathering at a Jeffersonville waterfront restaurant. ALL are welcome!

I look forward to seeing you when we again, "gather at the river" for this annual event.

"Curator Keith"

Ramblings and Rummage

2 large Rubbermaid containers full of books and other objects are already over there awaiting new homes. I delivered them when I came over for Chautauqua. Some books are still in their hermetically sealed wrappers - amazing how many duplicates one can acquire, especially when stocking bookcases in both RI and NOLA... as usual RR should be a stellar event!

How I wish I could be there for this great event.

However, I will be on the Cast Iron Monster that day at Maysville, KY (very near by...but, alas no cigar).

Be sure to give Capt. Kevin my best...I am sure all will have a great time listening to his river stories. I know he has some great ones, I was there for some of the events that lead up to them!

Gee, I am gonna miss a rummage sale, too. What luck!

Hard to believe this is the 9th one..

Who would have thought when the 1st River Ramblings was held that it would be an annual event and one of the highlights of the summer for river people? Can anyone (other than Keith) remember who the first speaker was?
I had to quickly edit my pictures, as I found out that I had posted one of Keith's River Room with the big J.M. WHITE model built by Fred Way Jr. - those darn small thumbnails, can't tell what's in them - and I didn't want anyone to think we were selling that model at the rummage sale. Capt. Kevin as the speaker is the Big Time, the sale secondary but fun and hopefully profitable for the Little Museum That Can and Does!

"Cast Iron Monster"? I think the DELTA QUEEN will be in Chattanooga that day, and as far as the AQ I hope she's in Ragtown July 27. I know some folks getting on her for Pittsburgh.
