Due to the extremely HIGH temperatures this week (103 yesterday) we decided today that we will most likely move the "River Ramblings" program from the carriage house into the mansion. Chuck Parrish, our presenter, gave this program in March to the Ohio River Scenic Byway Commission and it worked fine in a more confined space with chairs set up in the parlor and library. The new geothermal HVAC system is partially in operation. If the heat wave breaks before Saturday, we still might convene in the carriage house. Time will tell.

Today, the Indiana Historical Society delivered the Steamboat A' Comin' traveling display to the museum. It contains 19 panels of information and graphics and will be set up in the carriage house. It will remain in Jeffersonville until August 31st. Admission is free.

The "Riverboat Rummage Sale" will again be featured, but will not be on as large a scale as last year. Judy Patsch will again serve as "purser" for admissions and rummage sale purchases, all of which benefit the museum operating fund. And, of course, there will be a copious supply of Judy's cookies on hand!

Jimmy Reising has developed a terrific new exhibit on ferries which operated in the Falls Cities area. We plan to hang this exhibit on the second floor tomorrow. It contains excellent photographs and text. Centerpiece of the display will be a superb model of the 1835 ferry BLACK LOCUST, made by Capt. Alan L. Bates. Be sure to see it!

Driving directions and other information regarding HSM can be accessed at Howard Steamboat Museum - Home Page.

Looking forward to meeting and greeting y'all this weekend -- whatever the weather!

Good idea - this way the chocolate chip cookies won't melt either!
