More info on the TWILIGHT cruise

The TWILIGHT is a diesel riverboat, designed and built by Capt. Dennis Trone. He sold her last year to longtime employees, who have kept up the fine traditions and standards Capt. Dennis had.
There will be entertainment throughout the cruise, 3 meals onboard upbound and 2 downbound. Breakfast on Wednesday is included, but at the Grand Harbor Hotel where we overnight.
During the cruise we make 2 locks: 13 and 12. Just above 13 is the widest point in the entire Mississippi, some 3.5 miles wide. It is a scenic stretch, including bluffs. One way is approximately 85 miles.
Admission to the wonderful river museum is included in our fare. Even though we are just a couple of blocks from its entrance, shuttles are provided for our morning in Dubuque.
I will have an open house here at the Middle Upper Mississippi River Museum the night before the cruise, Monday Aug. 18. Presumably ice and snow will not be a problem for that evening!
LeClaire is just north of the QuadCities, about 13 miles. It is a very important historical rivertown and worthy of its own tour - the LONE STAR and Buffalo Bill Museum are next door to the TWILIGHT and the CITY OF BATON ROUGE wharfboat. LeClaire was the home of many of the Rock Island Rapids pilots.

While I know it is too early to make definite commitments, I would appreciate hearing from you if you are planning to come. I don't particularly have $200 to toss in the river and so if this isn't going to float, I won't make the deposit. Please contact your friends who aren't on .org - I will be emailing as many Midwest Buffs and others that I know to join us.

As we know, many of you will be on the DQ or AQ around this date, but there is no way to find a date open for everyone - this happens to fit into Franz and Carmen's schedule, and its at a time when it should be comfortable on the river - if you don't like the warm August days, all the interior is air-conditioned. We hope to make several trips a year to other boats with overnight trips (BELLE OF CINCINNATI, MAGNOLIA BELLE, CELEBRATION BELLE, STEAMER JULIA BELLE, etc.) and maybe even a venture for several trips on the NATCHEZ and other activities in New Orleans. This year's trip could be the beginning of something BIG!!!!

Thanks to all who have emailed already. After the initial posting yesterday and an email to those for whom I have addresses, we have 13 ayes already. Please email me even if you don't intend to join us, so I'll know not to include you in the 'maybes'. By the way, I've checked the weather forecast, and its supposed to be sunny, 80 and mild northerly breezes...
