The June issue of the S&D REFLECTOR was mailed today from Richardson Printing. There are 2 more issues at the printer, ready to go out in the next couple of weeks. This brings us up to date as far as the REFLECTOR is concerned. News and a report of the September meeting in Marietta will be in the December issue.
We are back on track, and Dave Tschiggfrie is working on his first issue, January 2011. Dave welcomes (indeed, solicits!) any and all material for the magazine. You may email him at [email protected]
Membership in Sons & Daughters of Pioneer Rivermen (S&D) is open to any and all with an interest in rivers, steamboats and the people who ran them.

Thanks for your kind words, Skipper. Your posts ain't too shabby, either! ;-D
I would say that you should receive your magazine in the next couple of weeks. They have been sent, but since they are 3rd Class postage, they sometimes take a while. Blame this on the Post Office. Back issues are available; info. on them will be in the REFLECTOR.
It's always amusing to get reports on when the Pony Express finally delivers those Reflectors to their respective recipients. I hope mine gets over the passes before the heavy snows arrive. There's already accumulation at the higher altitudes, so it will be dicey. Might have to wait until next spring for those other issues. -)
In one of my more devilish columns I proved, irrevocably, that the Waterways Journal should ship their magazaine to the Ohio Valley by barge to beat the postal service in both cost and delivery time. Now, if we could just extend a branch of the Mississippi to the Colorado Rockies. . . .

Maybe the Corps can improve the upper reaches of the Arkansas for navigation. 😉
The Arkansas is navigable, downstream. Man has used the shores of the Arkansas for stagecoach roads, railroads, and highways. I do not think steamboats made it this far. The Ute Indians probably had pathways along the Arkansas. Somehow they could survive in this climate with teepees. Brrrr
That reach trough the Royal Gorge would be challenging, to say the least!
hmmm, a rubber boat, steam, sternwheeler heading upstream carrying your subscription of S and D and your weekly Waterways Journal? it's a thought anyway
As most know, the Sons & Daughters of Pioneer Rivermen also maintains a web site. While not interactive like steamboats.org, we do publish articles from time to time about the rivers and history. A recent update has been made with a report on the September S&D meeting at Marietta, OH, changes in leadership and a new "Reflections Online" article, with pictures, on dealing with ice while running boats. See the updates here: The Official Website of Sons and Daughters of Pioneer Rivermen
The S&D website has just been completely revamped. Same general style, but with updates and a couple of new features. Check it out! Sons and Daughters of the Pionee
Cap,
The website looks good! I am liking what I am seeing here!
