The March issue of the S&D Reflector arrived at my landing yesterday. The first edition to be published since Capt. David Smith took the wheel as editor, I must say that it looks great in every way and he deserves a long and loud whistle salute! This year marks my 40th anniversary as a member of S&D (I joined when I was 13) and although I no longer attend the annual meetings at Marietta, I look forward to the quarterly arrival of the magazine. Thanks David! Capt. Fred would be proud!
I'd like to thank Capt. Smith too, but have to do it prematurely, as my Reflector still hasn't arrived. But at least it has made it not only to Germany, but now to Indiana, so Illinois can't be too far behind... and I'd like to remind S&D members that the editor can make the magazine only as good as its material, and he shouldn't be expected to come up with it all himself. For years the members contributed much and much was published. Unfortunately the past few years that lessened, but I'm sure Capt. David would welcome information and suggestions for articles. So please help make the Reflector great again, Capt. Smith is certainly doing his part!
S & D Reflector
At mile 448.5 on the Ohio the Reflector has landed. It's a giant step forward for S & D. Keith's right, Capt. Fred Way would be proud and so am I

Still waiting here at mile 470. for the mail boat to arrive. I sure hope that she hasn't broke down upriver somewhere, 'cause packet service ain't what it used to be! It will probably be awhile before the next mail boat comes along.
Still waiting eagerly here at mile Lord-only-knows-what on the South Platte River in Denver. But the river's down a bit, so it may take a little longer. Need a boat that only draws 6 inches ...
The mail boat was here at Ohio River mile 545.9 today and delivered the new Reflector. Well done Capt. Smith!
Frank, the mail boat is fighting this highwater as she heads northbound, but maybe she will make it to Cinci by tomorrow. We are just cresting here at almost 30' above pool level.
Over here on the 'other' river, water is high but boats are locking through on this stretch. None however has delivered my Reflector yet...
The Reflector arrived at the Port of Nashville yesterday. I scanned it and it looks great. It probably got here a little quicker because the packet boat was nervous about that Wolf Creek Dam that is about to bust at any minute up there in Kaintuck.
