Greetings From New Orleans !
I have just received information from a very reliable source that the Str. American Queen has been purchased !
Presently the Str. American Queen is in a " Moth Ball Fleet " , in Beaumont , Texas .
It is my understanding that the Str. American Queen has been purchased by a major west coast maritime company and that they have plans to return the Str. American Queen back to service as soon as minor refurbishing work can be completed !
More details as the information comes in !
Smooth Sailing !

Should we be expecting a press release from this mystery company soon?
I've heard the same rumor but no announcement. I hope we hear soon. I can give her lots of business and we are looking for venues for our Civil War Sesquicentennial programs and so far there have been no river cruises! I can't wait to see her back on the river but would surely love some real information!
American Queen
I hope this is true.....we need to hear some good news about the riverboats......seems as if it has all been bad news lately.
It´s getting more and more interesting:

This all sounds great and sure hope to see it all happen soon. Tennessee is a great place for this type of business. I will be ready to apply!!!!
Rumors rumors rumors
I sick of these rumors. First Louisville now Memphis. A Great American Steamboat Company webpage with a "coming soon" page is the only Concrete evidence that something is afoot. The article on the Commercial Appeal site out of Memphis CLAIMS the GASC OWNS the MQ and AQ but offers no proof. The only other concrete evidence that I care about is that the MQ hasn't been cut up yet OR moved from the Harvey Canal. And I know this for a fact because I've seen it with my own two eyes. Until I see a confirmed purchase and relocation of the MQ for overhaul, I'm not buying anything anyone says. I'm listening to all of it and check it all out to the best of my ability but remain guardedly optimistic- now if anyone would give me names and phone numbers..... I will gladly confirm it for myself and share. In fact I am going to contact the writer of that article and make him tell me how he knows that.
A quick perusal of the Interwebtubes reveal minimal (and somewhat conflicting) information about this "Great American Steamboat Company." It is a "boat dealer" located at 1021 Kerlerec St, New Orleans, LA 70116-1905, and its COO is a D. Kendall Grigsby of San Francisco. The address is just outside the French Quarter and appears to be residential. Perhaps the Good Doctor is familiar with an individual at the address?
Yes
He has had conversations with him regarding the DQ and a possible relocation, which Doc urged against. I was just on the phone with Doc advising him I wasn't enroute to NOLA as planned, due to debilitating back spasms, and I read him the article linked above. He has had no conversations with them about that information, but we agreed that while Memphis could be a viable hub, think of the scenery or lack thereof going both directions for a 2 day span, not a very inviting intro for the passengers. And yes, 1021 Kerlerec is in a residential area just downriver from the FQ, known as Faubourg Marigny. The residences are similar to those in the FQ, but not as pricy, yet.
(a quick perusal of the interwebtubes sounds like a delicate surgery, Dr. Jon!)
News from Memphis
This item has been circulating in cyberspace this morning.

Unfortunately ,................................................. ..
Jazou ,
Thanks for posting this but unfortunately it is not entirely accurate . Its my understanding from speaking with the people that are trying to purchase the MQ , that both the AQ & MQ are still in limbo . Furtherrmore , what I am told is that at one point the state of Mississippi was to be in a partrnership with Horn Blower who was to operate the AQ out of the Mississippi port of Greenville but for one reason or another the deal fell through !
Now the powers that be in Tenn. are considering this same partnership and operating the boat out of Memphis , Tenn.
Time will tell !
Smooth Sailing !
