Early this morning as I was on a job assignment and was navigating down the river from the St. James Oil Terminal ( river mile 158 ahp ) to New Orleans , I met and spoke to the Skipper on the M/V George Banta and asked him if he had any information at all concerning the future of the Str. Lunga Point . The reason I asked this of him is because it is his company , that owns and operates the Str. Lunga Point and to my surprise , he had great news to report . The good news is that as I write this article , Banta Fleeting is in the process of both raising and renovating this historic old steam towboat and after the necessary repairs will be placing it back into service in their fleet in Plaquemine , La. It really is ashame that some historice organization or individual could not buy the boat and restore it to its original condition and then put it on display somewhere where it could be appreciated for what she is and what she represents .
