Those familiar with the popular television program The Joy of Music featuring renowned organist Diane Bish and pipe organs all over the world, will be interested to know that she is doing another program featuring the AMERICAN QUEEN. Several organist friends of mine are aboard the cruise, which departs New Orleans on Saturday, May 24th, with stops (river conditions permitting) at Oak Alley, St. Francisville, Natchez, Vicksburg and Helena, before the trip concludes at Memphis on May 31st. Organ tapings will be done at the Presbyterian churches in Natchez and Vicksburg.
This is the second time Miss Bish has done a "Music on the Mississippi" cruise and the first one is documented on DVD, which is available for purchase from her online catalog. Read more about it at www.dianebishtv.com and click on Musical Tours.
Keith,
I remember well when Diane Bish was here in Louisville back in I believe it was 1993, the week after the Derby. We recorded a set on the BELLE OF LOUISVILLE calliope and she played it! I was amazed she wore her signature gold lamme pedal shoes to the set!
Admittedly, the interview she made with me was awful....I was quite embarassed by it! No one told me anything about her appearance and I showed up in jeans and a t-shirt to the boat. I had no idea I was to be in the presence of a hugely talented and published musician! Lucky for me, the uniform suit was in the car. The proper shoes weren't, hence my memory of hers!
Ah the days of innocence!

Travissimo!
And that program is forever preserved for posterity on video, a copy of which is in our company library!
You did a fine job! Miss Bish, whom I have met several times, is a fabulous organist, but I doubt she would tackle the theme from "Phantom of the Opera" on a 32 whistle cally-ope! Nobody plays it like YOU do -- Mr. Wizard of the Whistles!
Sorry to rehash an old thread, but earlier I rec'd a phone call from one of priests in town telling to to look @ EWTN as the American Queen was on it!
The episode was dated from 1999 (#2408) which one can find online through a 2 DVD set...
25TH ANNIV SPECIAL - MISSISSIPPI - 2 PART DVD
Again, apologies for rehashing something old, though relevant.
Diane Bish on AQ, Debbie on NATCHEZ
Well, Pete, there isn't a whole lot of 'new' to talk about right now! I have this in the VHS version. I haven't played it for quite a while, but isn't there a nice interview with Capt. John Davitt on it? I do remember there were lots of good shots of the AQ throughout. Diane even tries her hand at the calliope, as I recall.
On another muscal note, Debbie Fagnano sent this along. This is quite a different angle than most interviewers take... An Englishman in New Orleans

When the good padre called me, it was almost over...I did see the last 2 or 3 minutes..
