Greetings From New Orleans ,
Today , the 17th. of October , I am on a north bound tanker , bound for the Exxon dock in Baton Rouge and as luck would have it the Corps of Engineers Dredge , Jadwin was digging in the Bayou Goula Ranges . Well , the traffic was light and I had an opportunity to go to another vhf radio channel with the " Contact Pilot " on the Jadwin and " talk shop " with him and asked him something that I have always wondered about . Specifically , does the little house near the dredge;s pipeline tail , have a name ? The " Contact Pilot , on the jadwin told me and I was wondering if anyone else out there may know as well ?
Ted Davisson

Maybe it doesn't have a name. For example: the end of the landing stage that rests on the deck is the "heel," but nobody gives a hoot about the other end.
How long will you make us wait before you tell us, Ted? And I have always wondered: does the person in that little house steer the end of the pipeline around, or is that done with the anchor cables?
Capt. Ted, Another bit of trivia...My guess is your second picture was taken Spring of 2007, and Oak Alley of course?
Like the "catch-all" closets on towboats, could this also be called a "Dog House" ??
It's the pontoon shack or the booby-house. OK, I cheated--I asked a master--that is, Captain John Dugger, who has a lot of experience with dredges. He and Janice are currently aboard the Delta Queen--always a pleasure to have them!
And The Answer Is ................................
Greetings From New Orleans ,
Well , " My Hat Is Off " to Mary S. Charlton and Capt. Dugger for correctly answering the Triva Question , of what is the name of the little house located near the end of the Dredge Jadwin's pipeline . Also , I am pleased to hear the name of the little pipeline house come from Capt. Dugger , inorder to verfify what was told to me by the " Contact Pilot " on the Dredge Jadwin as well . I have to admit that the term " Boobie House " is a bit odd or even strange for a house on a dredge's pipeline , but who am I to second guess a Corps Of Engineer , Dredge Boat tradition . Futhermore , I am not sure if all Corps Of Engineers , Dredge Boats have a " Boobie House " or if this is only found on the Jadwin . The next time I come into radio range with the Jadwin I'll ask if there is any rhyme or reason for this name , but I am sure ol' Capt. Harry louden would have known !
Smoothe Sailing !
