Greetings From New Orleans ,
Today , Sunday , July 27th. , the Coast Guard has re-opened the Mississippi River to light and regulated traffic . Also , the Coast Guard has established a " De-contamination Zone " where ships that were anchored below the city that came into contact with the spilled No. 6 oil , are re-anchored above the Harvey forebay and off of the old Public Grain Elevator and then undergo a de-contamination hull cleaning . Its also my understanding that the Coast Guard has come under heavy pressure from the different sectors of the local marine industry to re-open the river due to heavy financial losses . It is estimated that the port , the state , and the gulf coast region have been losing up to 270 million dollars per day due to the river being closed . This incident and the aftermath of Hurrican katrina should show the rest of the country the importance and financial impact this port has on the remainder of the country . Food for thought folks !
Smoothe Sailing !
