HI all, just an update on upcoming cruise and wondering who all might be aboard too. Our cruise group has grown, it's now Linda & I, My folks (Bob & Lois) AND their friends Arlita and Ralph (who decided to go after a visit with my folks who peaked their interest).
We are arriving in New Orleans on the 15th, staying in the French Quarter at St. Peter Guest House, with reservations for the Lunch cruise on the Natchez on the 16th. Plan on Preservation Hall either the evening of the 15th or 16th, don't know when we fly in yet.
Any other suggestions?
I know, "Oh bother, another newbie."
Well, off to celebrate my Dad's 87th and my Aunt's 80th. Guess what we're going to tell all the cousins about?? Heh Heh Heh.

Hi David,

At the risk of revealing a crew secret, try breakfast at the St Charles Tavern. I never miss it. Not really walking distance from the Quarter. It's on St Charles. Look up the address in the phone book.

Great food, plenty of it, inexpensive, local non-tourist place.

David,
You know Deb and I will be on board. Counting the days as we speak. A bit of other Dot.Orgers and a few lurkers will be on board, too. I'll let them speak for themselves.
You're gonna bring that shirt in the DK picture, right? Love that shirt...
You and Linda have a safe trip.

Yes, Bruno knows I'll be there but I will speak for myself. I'm looking forward to meeting you, David! And I know we are all looking forward to the trip!!

You could visit an historic home, like the Beauregard Keyes Patsch House at 1113 Chartres, tours on the hour from 10-3. Ring the front doorbell on the hour for admission...

As Pat and Bruno know, Carol and I will also be on board for that trip. We are sure looking forward to getting out of this ice and snow. Should be no power outages either. Steampower is the way to go, John

Judy,
Great idea. Looking over our "suggested" itineray, Sat morning we should have time to do that! (Thursday we will likely get in after 3, and Friday we're on the Natchez for the Lunch cruise).

Across the street is the Ursuline Convent, and behind us on Royal is the Gallier House, so you could do a couple if so inclined. Be sure to mention you know me to Marion or Ott, your guides. Marion is living in my apartment now and Ott lives in the bigger apartment across the courtyard. The BK House reopened as soon as the FQ was opened to the public again, just as the Natchez did, and like the Natchez, it is struggling to survive. Visiting and patronizing the tourist attractions is the best thing we can do now for the city! Another wonderful item, but its a full day's worth almost, is the D-Day, now the WWII National Museum.

Pete,
You Bet!! That was our 30th anniversary night. I suspect our cabin on the queen will be a bit smaller! 🙂
I have a number of pics I should upload to the group. I'll get to work on it (have to reduce them first)

This is Great! Looking forward to meeting y'all too! Hmm, should we have "steamboats.org" badges so we can find each other? Or, maybe as Bruno suggested, I should wear one of my Hawaiian shirts? One of my Cousin's friends (whose name I can't remember) who has steamboated often --was on the MQ's maiden 'voyage' --told me in no uncertain terms that I should NOT wear "such attire" onboard!

Thankfully, I'll be on that trip too. The DQ is small enough that we'll all find each other long before we leave the NOLA landing. I look forward to meeting you soon.

I spent a great weekend back in Feb 2002 aboard the DK. Excellent food service, excellent room-excellent bathroom...it was a perfect weather weekend too...70 degree days and sunshine...a special treat for me in early February!

One of the valets gave me a 1st hand tour of the boat 1st hand...I have a host of oics as well...I should add them to my Steamboats.org blog!!!

Sadly seeing what the DK was like and then returning to the DQ that next summer (2003) made me angry with the DQ and it's owners!

At least the DK is more "cost effective" for accomodations, despite the fact it doesn't go anywhere anymore!!!

My brother and grandfather were on the "Maiden Voyage" of the MQ in 1976...

Vatican Mosaic Art exhibit

For those of you with time to spare in NOLA, the Ursuline Convent across the street from my house - 1100 Chartres - will be having an exhibit of Vatican Mosaic Art for 3 months beginning the end of January. My neighbor Ott is going to a preview next weekend, but he doesn't know much about it now. But if you're in the neighborhood, it sounds like something worthwhile to check out.

Count us in

Ralph got so sick of seeing my envious green complexion that he demanded we book this trip so as of 5:00PM we're a go. (Bunk beds this time, that should be interesting!!)
Looking forward to meeting you, David, and of course seeing the rest of you again. Are we all a bit demented or what?
