It's nice having the Steamer American Queen on the upper Ohio River near Pittsburgh where her first paying passenger trip began on June 28, 1995.The trip was sixteen days, steaming the length of the Ohio River then up the Mississippi to St Louis where it was joined by the Steamer Delta Queen and Mississippi Queen as they completed The Great Steamboat Race. The Steamer American Queen was used as the finish mark for that race. It was the first time all three of the Delta Queen Steamboat Company boats were together. After spending a second day in St Louis, the Steamer American Queen steamed down river ending the trip in New Orleans.
Hi Victor,
I was introduced the Ohio river while working aboard the AQ. I love the beauty and the varied types of ports we visited. From Cave in Rock and Wellsburg, WV to Pittsburgh and all the great smaller towns in between, like Marietta and Madison along with Louisville and Cincinnatti. Big towns, little towns, caves in rocks!
You gotta love the Ohio!
